So I was just reading a birth story and now I have a question re: episiotomy
So I had one and was very sore with icepacks and the whole nine yards downs there... if you don't have one... are you still sore? Do they still give you icepacks and numbing solution and stuff?? I never even thought that maybe it wouldnt hurt down there... I just assumed it was normal? Wonder what everyone else's experience was...

Re: So I was just reading a birth story and now I have a question re: episiotomy
I had one with my first but not with my second and third. I was slightly sore (nothing compared to having an episitomy) and they did give me icepacks but I didn't feel the NEED to have them like I did with my first. I still used the peri bottle to clean off down there.

Re: So I was just reading a birth story and now I have a question re: episiotomy
I had an episotomy with my DS and I ripped in 2 or 3 places. I remember them saying that it was 3rd degree. I was sore for maybe a few days had to sit slowly but that's it. With DD tore slightly and wasn't sore at all. Still used the peri bottle and that numbing stuff I had to make sure I wouldn't feel anything. Better to be safe!!

It was sore but not as bad as you must have been. I didn't tear either with DS#2. I didn.t have ice packs but I coulded wipe or touch the area for a while. I had really bad hemmeroids though.

Re: So I was just reading a birth story and now I have a question re: episiotomy
i didn't have an episiotomy and barely tore (first degree, needed one dissolvable stitch) but i was still pretty sore and needed the ice packs and all that.
i found that even when the soreness was gone i still felt very weak down there, like it was hard to stand up from a seated position.

I had a second degree tear and I didn't think that it hurt that much at all.

I didn't need one, nor did I tear with either baby and honestly, I didn't have any pain. Now the hemroids? those had to be ice packed

Re: So I was just reading a birth story and now I have a question re: episiotomy
I had one and was really sore for quite a while. I mentioned it to my OB and he said even without one, you'd most likely be sore. I believe he said something like "you just pushed a volkswagen out of something the size of a watermelon -don't you think you'd be sore???" Yes, he was being funny but getting his point across.

Same here with my second child. I tore very little (no episiotomy), but still did the ice packs and the numbing spray (Dermaplast), and I used the peri bottle instead of wiping for about 1 month For about 2 weeks, I was walking like a cowboy and felt like there was a bowling ball between my legs still.
