Re: so if i don't have a cc...which one is easy to get?
do you think it will be hard for you to get one? We have capital one for the mileage. Be careful with this because we started charging everything to obtain the miles, and then we would have this HUGE bill to pay off at the end of the month. That was very overwhelming. I'd search around and get one that offers the lowes interest rate. Also did you know that anytime you open a new account (charge card, credit card,) it lowers your credit rating by 9 points because they have to run your credit to see if you're elligable for their card. I didn't know that, but they should tell you that when you're shopping and they say "Would you like to open an account with us and save 10%"...

Newsday has a list of credit cards with their annual fees & interest rates every week. I"m not sure which day it's in.

Providian and capital One are 2 cc companies that will start you out with a low limit and every few months, as long as your account is in good standing, they will increase your credit line.
My credit was pretty banged up years ago thanks to an ex of mine. I got both cards and my original limit was $500 but at the end it was about $20k. ETA: Neither card has an annual fee. I still have the Providian card.
ETA: websites

Consumer Reports had some info on airline miles, reward points, etc. Also some interesting articles on credit card scams.
I think Bankrate.com was the name of the website that Newsday's info came from. It compares credit cards, including ones for those that carry a balance, pay it off at month end, etc.

My first credit card when I had no history was the Chase Universal. It was the only one I got approved for.
