So, I'm striking out trying to find a bar for DH's B-day
I want to throw him a 30th birthday and do a 3 hour open bar and appetizers at a bar in Rockville Centre. That is where he grew up and where he and his friends like to hang out. DH is a cop so choosing a day is hard and there is really only one Saturday in August (the week of his b-day) I can have it b/c he took vacation. I called Croxleys and Cannon Blackthorn's and they won't do a Saturday night party. I wanted to do it from 7-10 and than everyone can leave, stay or go to another bar after. But they will only do something from 5-8 but my friend decided to of course change her engagement party to the one day I can have a party for DH. I already told my friend that I HAVE to have the party that night but she doesnt care b/c none of the same people will be invited to her engagement party anyway. Plus her party will be from 3-7.
So here are my options, what would you do?
1) Stingers Pub from 7-10 (which is where DH and his friends from work usually go on Wednesday nights so I know they like it) but I feel like it may be repetitive and when I spoke to DH's brother and best friends they dont like that place.
2) This place called Chadwick's across from the train station but it is more of a restaurant and I dont think the kind of place DH's friends will like. And the bar is kind of small for 50 people. Party would be from 7-10.
3) Or just go with Cannon Blackhorn's and do a 5-8 and leave my friends engagement party early (or maybe I can talk them into a 6-9) and than everyone can do what they want after. Do you think 5-8 or 6-9 is too early?

Are you set on Rocville Centre? Maybe try Long Beach - you'll have a ton of places there. I threw my DH's party at Sutton Place - I think it was from 7-10 or 8-111 (can't remember) it had a private room and then everyone was able to go into the bar afterwards.
I think the 7-10 option is the best - 5-8 is a little early for a party (especially if you want it to go on after)

I thought of Long Beach as well but I figured RVC b/c than after people can go to whatever bar they want and plus it is close to the train which most people will probably take. I am going to look into Long Beach too though.

Long Beach has alot of different places. The Nautical Mile in Freeport?? Bridgeview Yacht Club?
I know you said RVC...I can only really think of Croxleys and you said that was out.

I second trying Kasey's! They actually have great food and I know they rent out the bar for parties. Definitely check there.

my friend sister did 3 hour party at the piano bar on sunsrise that has an entrance in the parkling lot of stingers. it is more upscale, but she got a great rate. after the party was over the drinks were expensive though.

DH's friend suggested Kasey's. But when I mentioned it to DH's brother he said he would never step foot into that bar, he hates it.
ETA: You would think people would be happy they were drinking for 3 hours for FREE!!!!

You are never going to be able to please all of your brother's friends, etc. What does his friends have against Stingers - because you said your DH always goes, which is the most important that HE likes it - it's his party.

have a great place in Plainview..
either way, people are going to have to drive to get home, so why limit yourself to one area?

Re: So, I'm striking out trying to find a bar for DH's B-day
What does his friends have against Stingers -
He and his friends from work (which will be 98% of the guest list) go to Stinger's every Wednesday (well DH doesnt really anymore) but it is the place the cops from his precinct hang out on Wednesday nights. There's only 2 or 3 people that aren't crazy about it, DH's brother & 2 of his friends he grew up with. But like I said, a majority of the people at the party will be cops from his job who like the bar.
ETA: It's not my 1st choice I guess b/c it is not the most popular bar, but it is clean, has a pool table and dart boards, and it isn't crowded (b/c its not as popular) which is what I kind of want so we will kind of have the bar to ourselves.

DH's brother sounds kind of picky to me - he keeps nixing your ideas - let HIM come up with something!!

Re: So, I'm striking out trying to find a bar for DH's B-day
I agree that 5-8 is early for a 30th b-day party, even if you go out after. And Chadwick's is really restaurant-y - definitely not like a bar. How many people are you having?
Try: MacArthur Park R.J. Daniels Churchill's Champs

Re: So, I'm striking out trying to find a bar for DH's B-day
Churchill's doesnt cater at all. I will try the others. Thanks for your help.
Between getting married last year, having a baby this year, I am partied out between engagement parties, showers and christenings. It is always so frustrating trying to plan a party and please EVERYONE, which can never be done. But I really want to do something nice for DH.
