So, it's "fundraiser season." Do you hit up your friends...
who have kids in school? Because I do not. I may mention the Girl Scout cookies because everyone loves them, but as far as the wrapping paper, the candy (both of which I'm dealing with right now)...no, I don't ask. I ask the grandparents, older aunts, etc...
But I have a friend that is bombarding us all with her son's fundraiser. At least five emails and three or four FB posts so far. This morning, I wrote an FB update saying I was staging an intervention for her! I don't want what they're selling (in fact, I still have it from last year!) and even to donate it to the troops overseas it's $35!
So, am I right or am I a crank? Either way, how do I politely tell her no thank you?

Re: So, it's "fundraiser season." Do you hit up your friends...
I never hit anyone up. In fact, even though I'm very active at my DS's school and help out with a lot of activities (ironically I'm even chairing one of these sales drives this year), the one thing I can't bring myself to do is sell stuff. If it's gift wrap, candles, anything from a catalog, I'm happy to order a thing or two for ourselves as a way to support the school, but I HATE forcing this stuff on friends/neighbors/coworkers. Especially friends/neighbors with kids, who are bombarded with their own fundraisers to contend with.
We really have nobody to sell to. We both have small families, I'm a SAHM so no coworkers, my DH works for a small company and he would never want his staff to feel "obligated" to buy from him. So we just return the candy box unopened, lol.

I agree with you. The fundraising is out of hand. I think it should be given to family members and those without school aged kids. We all have tons of fundraisers to do. I dont need any extras.

I usually put it out there via FB, email or word of mouth. I am not pushy about it at all, just informative. It doesn't bother me when others advertise it. Sometimes I am even looking for it!

I don't either. I showed the catalogs to my mom, grandmother, mother in law and aunt. That's it. I did post on FB about the kids coupon book that was being sold at my son's school. I did that b/c a lot of my friends are mommies and i know not every school sells those.

My sister and I do "an exchange"! LOL
She orders something from DS and I order something from my nephew.
Other than that, I show my dad, inlaws, brother and friends with no kids.

No. Dd is 4, but all that stuff goes in the garbage now. My mom and mil buy the coupon bookmat the beginning of the year. But I don't ask them to buy anything else.

I dont do the fundraiser for the school. I am very active with her school in other ways. I do however do her fundraiser for dance school buit that is becuase 40% of the profit goes to her costume/tuition etc, I sell to my family, ex Dhs family, my co workers, and friends with NO children. I would never ak my friends that have school aged kids.

Re: So, it's "fundraiser season." Do you hit up your friends...
I actually run a fundraise called JUMP ROPE 4 HEART at the school I work at. We basically have an hour before school which is like Field Day. All kids from grades 2-5 can come and they do not need to donate a penny. If they do - great. Last year the kids donated over $13,000! I was shocked! We decided to do it this year on 10-11 instead of April like normal to separate our 2 big school events. I feel bad b/c I had NO idea the girl scouts were having a nut sale, the PTA etc. Then again - they do not have to donate.
My kids already came home with 2 fundraisers. I may ask my MIL if she wants to donate but thats it. The only person that buys something from their fundraiser is me and if I cant, then thats that. If my kids want to ask someone politely once thats o.k. but being repeatedly bombarded for the same thing is rude. If I cant or dont want to do it - I just say no :)

As an Alumni would you like to sponsor my son for Preps 1st Walk-A-Thon next week? Thats what they are doing now instead of the chance books (remember that?)
ONLY KIDDING !!!!
I never, ever hit my friends up. We are ALL fundraising for one thing or another. This is what grandparents are for.

We usually do the kids Stuff coupon books, I never have to hit people up. They start asking for them in September. I sold a boat load last year.

Re: So, it's "fundraiser season." Do you hit up your friends...
No, I opt out since I have no one to sell too. In my sons school they are having the candy bar sale. each box has $50 candy bars and when the sale is over next week, you have to pay the school $50 whether or not you sold all the candy. Sorry, but I don't have the time to take my 6 year old door to door, nor do I have another $50 to give to his private school.
