so let's say you are a regular poster
and you frequent a few boards, but lurk on a few more.
there are other posters on here that you *like* because of how they *are* on LIF (you don't know them in person at all).
and then one of them (or several  ) posts something on one board that makes you upset, or pizzes you off, or just annoys the crap out of you.
do you stop *liking* them?
do you not reply to their threads on other boards?
(and before you get up in arms, this is NOT about one board in particular.)

I know exactly what you mean. After this post, I don't like you at all anymore.
 
Honestly, I don't pay close attn to individual posters to even notice who said what half the time. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't... but it would have to be one hell of a post for one post to make me not "like" someone anymore.

I cant help but question their personality. Ive seen this happen bc like you, I frequent the parenting board. Not too much drama (for the most part) and then I will see that same "mommy" attacking the cr@p out of someone on here...definitely sends a red flag for me. Even more so bc I have a child.

There are a few posters that when I opened a thread and read responses -- I can almost guess by what they say who they are, and I tend to not agree with them a lot...or find their posts annoying or something...which will lead me to say "oh boy" when they post cause I know chances are, I'm not gonna like it.
Since I don't know them IRL - I can't just assume I won't like them, but if they are singing the same song all the time, and I tend to find the song irritating, I can definitely say I bet I wouldn't mesh with them off the boards.
ETA: I just realized you meant if you like a person on one board and find their posts wrong or offensive on another -- well I try and stick to context and if what they are saying is relevant to the topic at hand.

I know exactly what you mean. And I am seeing it now!! Not sure I would no longer like the person, since I believe everyone has a different personality behing the keyboard than they do in real life anyway!

I agree. I often don't look at the name of the poster, and even if I do, I usually don't remember what they posted yesterday, so it's hard to hold a grudge or negative opinion for very long....

1/ Lost in translation: it's hard not to misunderstand people. It can happen especially when communication also involves audio/visual of others. I have met some LIF who come off differently onlike vs IRL.
2/ Some people turn posts into drama any chance they can. It does not matter if it's because you have a different opinion or not. It's like they jump on any opportunity they can. So someone feels attached, lashes back and here it is... that person is now seen as unable to take criticism or answering Qs.
3/ I try not to make a judgement on people here. But after I see a repeated pattern, I will tend to think this is not just 1 incident.

same here. Half the time I don't even remember the screen names or who is who or who posted what. I would never not like someone bc they posted about something I don't agree with . Even if it was on my own thread/post(I highly doubt I would even remember who the person was) I haven't met anyone on here so I wouldn't really take anything personally (not that I would even if I had met anyone) or not like them any more.OH and if someone changes their avatar, forget about it. No idea who the poster is in most cases.

I have a bad habit of judging ppl based on their avatar.  Bad, I know. But seriously, I would say there are those that I like for their responses and then sometimes they'll say something that makes me  . It doesn't necessarily make me "hate" them. It's all cool.
