My daughter never did ... even now she'll only nap in the swing forf a half hour TOPS. And I only think she does it more often now because of daycare (where they won't let her sleep in the crib on her tummy like she does at home).

Best thing for us in the beginning was the Fisher Price soothing glider. It made him feel safe and comfy. He slept in that dang thing for the first 9 weeks all through the night. It was great!! I will be using it again for this one!

We didn't want DS getting used to being in the swing all night. I don't think that it is good for them.
I also found when DS was really new, his head would slouch over or down and I would in no way have been able to sleep wondering if he was suffocating himself.
Plus, the noise of the swing would have driven me bonkers!

they actually say that keeping your child in that position for long periods of time will actually decrease the amount of oxygen that goes to the brain... that includes kepping your child in the infant carrier for long periods... so it is not recommended

That doesn't sound that safe to me. No offense to those who have done it, but I personally would be too afraid to let him stay in it all night.

MY DS refuses to sleep in his bassinet. which sucks b/c its such a pretty eddie bauer one..LOL.
During the day DS either naps in his fisher price rocker which we just got him, or his Chicco infant carrier seat. thats what he sleeps in at nite too. Im not thrilled but it works. Lately when he gets up for his bottle i bring him down to the living room and have him sleep on my chest for a little while then put him back in the chicco seat.
I hope he likes his crib one day...LOL

So far we had him in there for 1 night because he was really fussy. Normally he sleeps at night in the PNP and during the day it's either the swing, bouncy or on me.

Here is a pic of the smooth glider. They are laying down in it. We never put it on and took the toy bar off so it was perfect.

Re: So many peeps say in the begiing they sleep in their swing--All night???
DS was a good sleeper so I can't complain but he did have moments in the middle of the night where he was not screaming but he was just awake We had a travel swing so I put it next to my bed a few nights and let him stay up watching the lights on the swing and swinging and eventually he fell back asleep while I was cozy in bed. I knew he was safe strapped in and happy. It was NOT every night but it happened a few times. He was happy and I stayed sane. Now I have to see what happens with #2!

you will learn, as we all did - that you do what works for you.
if it's the ONLY place that your baby will sleep - then yes, you put them in the swing to sleep.
NO baby will sleep 14 hours (as mentioned in the link above) in one clip - and while yes, Emma may spend up to 4 hours sleeping in her swing, we then won't put her back in it again the same day/night.

ITA. DS slept in the swing until he was 5.5 months old. I know it was a very long time, and I wasn't happy about it, but it was the ONLY place he would sleep, and before then he was to young for CIO. We tried so many times to get him to sleep in the crib, and every time he would scream bloody murder and we would be up ALL night. Then DD would wake up since he was screaming next to her. Having him sleep in the swing was the only way we could all get some sleep. At 5.5 months we decided he was old enough for CIO. Since then he has been sleeping in the crib. He is perfectly fine, no damage done from those months of swing sleeping.

DD is 7 weeks and sleeps in her swing about half the time
we have a FP Starlight Papasan swing and its safer bc is reclines to bassinet mode so theyre flater, more like in a crib

Agreed!
Thankfully DS is a good sleeper - likes the cradle, etc. Right now he's actually napping in his bouncer.
