So my little guy is getting speech and a teacher to come to the house
For those that have had EI, what can I expect? How long does each therapist stay?? When diod you start to see some improvment? How often do you get reevaluated?

I am not sure which county you are in and if it makes a difference.
In Nassau, the review is every 6 months.
We get 45 minute sessions. After EI, I believe the sessions are 30 minutes.

Expect that the first session might just be you and the therapist talking about your child a little. And then the therapist trying to build a rapport with your child.
My therapist works with DS for 45 minutes and spends another 10 writing up progress notes for me.
He's been doing EI for speech for about 2 months now and I started to see improvement after about a month which I think is wonderful.
We get reevaluated every 6 months.

Thanks am in Queens. My DS is 17 months would that make a difference in how long they stay? Also would they evr do a double sesson say stay for an hour and half once aweek rather than 2, 45 minutes?

Re: So my little guy is getting speech and a teacher to come to the house
I just heard my son will have speech therapy also, so . I know on the one hand I'm happy he will have some help, the disparity between what he understands and what he can say without prompting is huge, and frustrating to him often. But on the other hand, I wish he had no problems at all. But the important thing is that they get the help they need early.
Do you have an appt. set up with your counselor and an evaluator? Ours is set up, and they will tell us more about what's going on and what is recommended in terms of therapy at that point. We are in Nassau though, so it might be handled differently. I would call your counselor though if you haven't heard anything. I was told yesterday that he will be evaluated after 6 months and they will see at that time if he needs more therapy or not.
Good luck!

you could certainly ask but the liklihood of a 17 month old attending to the session and being engaged is probably small. Not sure you would get as much out of it versus two difference sessions.
