So sad-hospitals ban kids under 18 from visiting

I am due in a month and just found out that DD cannot visit me (or her new brother) in the hospital.

Hospitals in our area banned kids under 18 from visiting due to concerns about the swine flu.

When I had DD, I was there for 4 nights. If history repeats itself that means I won't see her for 4 nights and when I do come home, she'll meet her baby brother for the first time.

I was hoping she could spend a good amount of time with him while I was in the hospital so she could get used to him.

That was in effect over the summer at the NSLIJ facilities but then lifted at some point.

I wonder if they will allow it if the kid has been vaccinated.

I think it is actually for the safety of the other patients, NOT the kids.

This age group is considered more likely to spread the flu to others.

I don't know-DD will be vaccinated for it, but maybe not in time if her ped still hasn't got it in yet.

In any case, they may still think she is at risk to spread it somehow.

I think it is a good rule. They will have plenty of time to bond when you are home

that sucks

I was in the hospital last week and Seamus couldnt see me either. However, the only exception to that rule was the maternity wing. Children were still allowed to visit there

It does stink, but I kind of understand it.
I was in the hospital for a month when this was going on...the Dr's felt so bad for me they bent the rules & allowed my DD to visit once a week in a special room... they needed her immunization records, checked her temp each time, it was crazy.
I only got to see my 3 year old daughter 4 times in a month.Chat Icon

When are you due? If it's after flu season there may be hope for you.

This is terrible. I will be so upset if I can't see my DD for 5 days while I get my C section...
