So sad today
I'm reading the thread about MC and it just amazes me how so common it is to happen- even to the healthiest woman.
I never knew MC was so common.
This actually scares me. I cant even imagine how that feels, so my heart truly goes out to anyone that has been through this.
What is the common reason for MC?

Re: So sad today
If there is something wrong with the baby, your body will naturally miscarry the baby.
But this doesn't always happen, as I only found out about our baby at 20 weeks and had to induce. My body didn't miscarry the baby on it's own.

Re: So sad today
Usually it is a chromosomal problem and the body recognizes this and the embryo does not survive. Unfortunately, most doctors do not test for anomalies unless someone miscarries a couple of times in a row. Of course, this depends on your doctor, insurance, etc.
I never knew it was so common either and was truly blindsided by it when it happened to me.

Re: So sad today
yes it is very common. I found this out from my doctor. He said studies have shown that a miscarriage happens 1 out of every 4 woman who are pregnant.
Their really is no specific what one did or didnt do, it's just something was wrong with the development and the fetus is not able to survive.
In my case I had a natural miscarriage. My body released everything and I was fortunate that I did not have to have a d&c.

Re: So sad today
Yea it's REALLY common. I read somewhere that most fertile women do suffer an MC at least once in their lifetime and don't even realize it bc it usually happens so early in a pregnancy. It just seems like a heavy AF when it happens at 4-7 weeks. Unless you're TTC you aren't testing early so you wouldn't even know it.

This is true. Many, many women have chemical pregnancies. Most don't know it, but those who test before AF is due will get a BFP and then a week or so later, AF will arrive. This is one of the reasons I refuse to test until AF is late. My doctors actually think I did have a chemical my last cycle. I only know this because I am being monitored by bloodwork constantly and my beta came back positive while I was having my period, then the next day was negative.

This is true in some cases but here is the breakdown of causes:
About 50% are chromosomal-improper division of cells, improper connection between sperm and egg, etc
Anatomical(uterine issues-fibroids, cervical issuies, etc) Infection Immune Issues

Re: So sad today
I too was saddened when I read the post. My miscarriage happened because I was in a car accident. My heart goes out to all the women who have miscarried. Some people who have never gone through it make it seem like it is not a big deal, but it is mourning a death. I don't think people understand that.

Re: So sad today
I experienced the pain of a m/c and it was the most heart wrenching experience that I have ever faced. I feel so bad for anyone who went (or will) through it. Until, I went through my experience (a molar pregnancy), I never realized how emotionally painful a m/c is.

Whats a molar pregnancy??
From WebMD: A molar pregnancy is a mass of abnormal tissue (hydatidiform mole) that comes from the placenta inside the uterus, which triggers symptoms of pregnancy. About 1 out of 1,000 women with early pregnancy symptoms has a molar pregnancy.1
There are two types of molar pregnancy: complete and partial.
Complete molar pregnancy. In place of a normal placenta and embryo, the hydatidiform mole is abnormal placental tissue that grows into a grapelike cluster that can fill the uterus. Partial molar pregnancy. The placenta grows abnormally into molar tissue. Any fetal tissue that develops is likely to have severe defects. In extremely rare cases, an apparent twin pregnancy is found to be one complete mole and one normal, healthy placenta and fetus.2

I had a partial molar...saw the heartbeat a bunch of times.... Then needed to be monitored for cancer due to the abnormal cells.

Re: So sad today
I had found this poem when I had my m/c. It's a real moving poem.
"A Pair of Shoes"
I am wearing a pair of shoes. They are ugly shoes. Uncomfortable shoes. I hate my shoes. Each day I wear them, and each day I wish I had another pair. Some days my shoes hurt so bad that I do not think I can take another step. Yet, I continue to wear them. I get funny looks wearing these shoes. They are looks of sympathy. I can tell in others eyes that they are glad they are my shoes and not theirs. They never talk about my shoes. To learn how awful my shoes are might make them uncomfortable. To truly understand these shoes you must walk in them. But, once you put them on, you can never take them off. I now realize that I am not the only one who wears these shoes. There are many pairs in this world. Some woman are like me and ache daily as they try and walk in them. Some have learned how to walk in them so they don't hurt quite as much. Some have worn the shoes so long that days will go by before they think about how much they hurt. No woman deserves to wear these shoes. Yet, because of these shoes I am a stronger woman. These shoes have given me the strength to face anything. They have made me who I am. I will forever walk in the shoes of a woman who has lost a child.

I have to agree. The emotional and mental pain had me so bad to where I ran out of the supermarket sobbing when I saw a pregnant person.
I tossed pillows at the TV when I saw a baby commercial. The pain is overwhelming and their are times I just wanted to stay in bed hoping the day would just end so I the next day would get here and hopefully be better.
Luckily recently their have been a lot more good days then bad

My dr. told me that 50% of all pregnancies end in miscarriage! Actually, someone else told me that, and I asked her this to tell me it wasnt true, and she said that unfortunately it id true....
