So sick of being judged because of where I work

Yes I am a manager at McDonalds ..so what !! I am a mother of 3 and I chose to stay home during the day with my kids and work at night ! I wan't to work in the hospital as an EKG tech., but right now with dh's hrs I can't do that ! I am not stupid because I work there ,and I do not deserve to be treated like I am a low life! I am sick of hearing stupid comments like "get a real job, keep the penny you will need it, and we are all idiots !"

My all time favorite is when I overhear people looking for jobs talking with peers, and they say " go flip some burgers at McDonalds ..hahahahhaha." Well let me just say , my job is far from easy ,and far from a joke ! Do I like working there? No ! But for now it works for me and my family . It also pays the bills .

Sorry for the vent ,but I am tired of people making me feel like a failure . I am happy to be able to say I have a job ..especially the way things are going today with everyone being laid off . When Eva goes to school , I will also be going Chat Icon Thank you for letting me get this off my chest Chat Icon

that's terrible. if you are a manager there i'm sure you have a lot of responsibility, managing staff and the $, shift scheduling, etc. pay no attention to them, they are ignorant! Chat Icon

I think your job is very demanding.

I hope you get some satisfaction that you are employed, taking care of your family the best you can and one day you will be at the job you want.

Don't let the comments get to you. I really believe that those types of comments have more to do with their own feelings of inadequacy rather than anything to do with the person being judged.

You are a gainfully employed person who has made a decision based on what is best for her children. Why the heck should you feel bad about that? You are most definitely NOT a failure.

Re: So sick of being judged because of where I work

Big hugs and I am sorry that you are dealing with aholes that are judging you.

You are working HARD, in a demanding job where you don't have time to play around. You are contributing an income to your family.

If people want to judge then let them start paying your bills. People have a lot of nerve I swear Chat Icon

The next time someone says a comment give them a stupid response like "well I applied with the local pimp, so I am waiting for him to call me back"Chat Icon

That's horrible but I think you are doing what is best for you and your family as well.

As a F/T working mother myself, I can definitely say that there's not a lot out there for those of us who NEED to work.

If I didn't have my inlaws to watch DS during the day, I KNOW I would have to take a step-down myself and I have my Master's degree and years of experience in the field.

Don't let stupid people get you down!!

I also often say I would trade in my job any day to go work in food service again!!!

Just smile & tell them to have a wonderful day...it will irritate them even more. Be proud of the fact that you are providing for your family & take comfort in knowing that you will be on to even bigger & better things!

Great book about a high class CEO who gets laid off ends up working at Starbucks for health insurance & a paycheck..."How Starbucks Saved My Life" (haven't read it but heard good things)...know that you are not alone!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: So sick of being judged because of where I work

I am so sorry people judge you for that. It just goes to show how insensitive people in general can be sometimes. Years ago, I left a very nice position in my field to take care of my Mom who was terminally ill. I worked in retail at Lord & Taylor, to be precise. I did what I needed to do at the time to be there to take care of what and who I needed to take care of. I also heard some of the same comments you experienced. No one knows another person's reasons for making choices in their lives. Even if you did want to be a Manager for the rest of your life, who cares?? Do what makes you happy and ignore the stupidity of others as much as you can. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I'm sorry that you're being subjected to such bull, especially they way things are now in the workforce.

When I was in elementary school, my mom was also a manager at McDonald's. It's defintely not an easy job, especially when you deal with the public. One time when my mom was working a customer was giving the girl on the register a hard time then my mom stepped in. The guy started mouthing off to my mother and she eventually tossed a shake in his face Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
I thought it was cool that my mom worked there because she set up for my class to have a trip there to see how McDonalds was run and then when she would come home from work, she would bring food home for meChat Icon

You're doing what you have to do to support your family. There is nothing wrong with that. Some people just need to get over themselves.

Re: So sick of being judged because of where I work

Mc Donalds is where my son works, he started at 16yrs old he is now 18 and he graduates high school in June. his friends ribbed him so bad for working there, he even called on his days off to see if they needed him, WHY? because with his pay from there he saved and bought himself his FIRST car, A BEAUTIFUL RED CHEVY MONTE CARLO.... he is so proud of his car. and especially the fact he bought it himself. and his friends really envy him now. no he wont be there forever, but hey it is a job, and he is earning his way. keep your chin up and be proud. you are supporting your family.Chat Icon
