So the kids got the flu vaccine at their well visit on 9/1
and now they both have the flu.

What do you mean? Flu like symptoms? What are their symptoms??
I had this vaccine ONCE years ago, and I swear I was flu like for over a month. That's why I haven't gotten it since, and am not sure if I want to give it to DD.
How are they feeling? Poor babies.

Fever, vomitting, glassy eyes, the whole bit. I know they say you can't get sick from it, but the timing is just too weird. Oh well, I'm just tired and cranky and being a brat that I have to wait up for the washing machine to finish.

it's a new law in NJ that children in daycare have to have this shot - i'm PETRIFIED to have Emma get it...

You really can't get sick from it. It's coincidence. It's not live vaccine like Chicken Pox or MMR.
Also vomiting is not part of the flu you get vaccinated for.
Sorry they're sick but I promise it's not from the vaccine.

It sounds like it could be swine flu, actually. It's true that you can't get the flu from the vaccine since it's dead, no more likely than you can get polio from the polio vaccine, kwim?

I have heard this so.... many times. IMO it is not coincidence when it is so often. My neighbors DD got the shot the other day for college and is now sick with flu like symtoms. Fever, chills bodyaches the whole bit. For me, I will pass.
ETA: Even if Thechnically you can not get "The Flu Virus" but you get all the flu symtoms, what is the difference?

I also think it is a coincidence. My DS has had 2 years in a row and never got sick from it.
Hope they feel better soon

You really can't get sick from the shot and if they are vomiting it is just a coincidence since the flu that the shot protects isn't the stomach flu. BTW it takes about 2 weeks to get immunity from the shot - so you can get the shot and a week later get the regular flu.
I hope that they feel better soon that is miserable

DS got the flu shot 2 years ago and then got the flu. They swabbed him and it was positive. Its entirely possible that they have the flu, there are different strains of it. Or they could have been exposed before they had their shots.
Hope they are better soon!

maybe i was misinformed but the flu shot is not a live virus so it would be impossible to get the flu from it
