So the TWU rejected the contract...
and I'm not feeling nearly as sympathetic for them as I was during the strike. How do you all feel?
Link to NY1 article...
Are they nuts? Greedy? Uneducated? Believing the hype?
I would want an 11% raise over 3 years and all but 1.5% of my benefits paid for...am I crazy?

Re: So the TWU rejected the contract...
I say fire the ones who rejected the contract and start training up some new folks!
I don't really mean it, but it is so frustrating. Any ounze of sympathy I had for them before is gone.
But maybe I'm just cranky at 4 on Friday and I want to get HOME!!

No, I agree completely. I was on "their" side and all...but now feel like they're being greedy. How could they want to be treated with the "perks" of a Board member when they're employees? I don't expect to earn the same bonus or get the same raise as the "heads" of my company...why do they expect any different?
I feel like they are being mislead by the union leaders trying to promote their own agendas.

Re: So the TWU rejected the contract...
Actually according to the article the union leader supported this contract.
"Toussaint supported the contract, and blamed the rejection of the proposal on what he called "downright lies" told by union members who opposed the deal."
I think in order to get the workers to strike he gave them such unreasonably high hopes and expectations that now they are disappointed. Send em all off to jail, fine them and fire them all. See ya!!!!

No, I meant the other "leader" the one that's opposing Toussaint...he's probably going to run against him (he was fined for calling members and asking them to vote no) and I feel like he doesn't have the worker's best interests, but rather his own.

Re: So the TWU rejected the contract...
I think they're being ridiculous at this point.
I think it's a very generous offer and they should jump on it. I mean, not for nothing, what other job can the employees get with that kind of guarantee of a raise and benefits??
I'm in corporate America, and they've knocked us down to a 5% raise- if you're getting promoted to a VP level. So, in essence, if you're doing a bang up job, chances are we'll only get a 2-3% raise! Not to mention, my co-pay went up and I have to pay more for my benefits!!!!
Maybe I should go work for the MTA!!!!!

Re: So the TWU rejected the contract...
I admit, I was a supporter (for the most part) but this is ridiculous. They will not get any more public sympathy or a better deal, especially when a starting police officer is only getting about $25k now, which is less than last year.

if they strike and i was bloomberg, i would tell all of the members that voted down the contract, that if they strike, don't bother coming back to work after the strike because you're fired!!!

i actually had no sympathy for them at any point through the strike but i agree about the police salary. my brother runs into burning bldgs in this city and makes much less than most these ppl do, so until the police and fireman start getting pd what they deserve, i dont want to hear it!
