So the Vet suggested we sedate our dog for grooming
I am not sure how I feel about this. We have had problems with Murray and groomers bc he is nasty to them, he just doesnt like the grooming process.
I can no longer take him to Petco bc of his behavior so we went back to an old groomer we used to use. I sedated him today and just felt so bad. He can walk around and stuff but you could tell he was a little loopy. I know its not hurting him though. So next time the groomer said we will try without the sedative to compare.
I just feel bad sedating him
eta for spelling

Poor little guy
Look at it this way... it's safer for him and for the groomer. If he was acting up while being groomed, he could've gotten cut or something like that.
You're doing the right thing.

Re: So the Vet suggested we sedate our dog for grooming
Sadly, I have to do this with my cat when I take her to the vet, even for routine nail clippings. She does not allow me to do them (never has), and she is beyond vicious at the vet.
Sometimes I'm at my wits end and I don't know what to do. We've tried everything and sedation is the only thing that works. It breaks my heart to do it, so I try not to do it too often.
I've had some real bad behavioral issues with her in the past. She's gotten so much better over the past 2 years, but this one area is still a problem.

The sedatives that they use just relax the dog. And I'm sure they like it better, because they're not all stressed out about going to groomer. They're just a bit sleepy.

Re: So the Vet suggested we sedate our dog for grooming
We used to sedate our Sheltie but when we took her to a new groomer she asked that we don't sedate her. She prefers not to have to worry about the dog being on anything. So we stopped sedating her and the groomer does a wonderful job.

For as often as he goes, as long as the dose is safe, it may have to be done. Just make sure they carefull watch him if he is half asleep, kwim?

I would think its safer as well. I heard of a dog jumping off the table and hanging himself!!! I was horrified
