So today is Character Education Day at my school and some of the questions posed to the students were interesting
The first set of questions they were asked was about caring.
1) Do you think you can choose to be a caring person or are you born that way?
2) By performing caring acts, we become caring people, do you agree or disagree
3) What does caring have to do with the quality of your character?
So what do you guys think?

ahhhhhhhh the old nature vs. nuture debate
1. i think it is a mix 2. no i think caring comes from the heart and doing caring acts doesn't necessarily make one caring 3..if it is TRUE caring...obviously makes one a better person

Re: So today is Character Education Day at my school and some of the questions posed to the students were interesting
Great questions:
1) Do you think you can choose to be a caring person or are you born that way? I think we are all born caring people. But its something that either gets developed or discouraged as you grow up.
2) By performing caring acts, we become caring people, do you agree or disagree? Disagree. People can performing caring acts... adn still not care. Likewise people can care but not perform caring acts.
3) What does caring have to do with the quality of your character? A caring person has the ability to feel for another person. That empathy is integral to charachter.

I think caring or the feeling of caring is something that's inate.
Performing caring acts doesn't mean you become a more caring person. It could all be a front.
Care: A burdened state of mind, as that arising from heavy responsibilities; worry. Mental suffering; grief.

Other influences along the way. I think most people learns to be cruel- it may not be from your parents- it can be from friends, people you see on the street, abusive situations, etc...

Re: So today is Character Education Day at my school and some of the questions posed to the students were interesting
1.) I think most people are born caring, but can be very different in what or who they care about.
2.) I don't think performing caring acts makes one become a caring person, but I think if there is even a small inclination of being a caring person, performing those acts can foster the quality in people.
3.) I think people with strong character are those who interact in a respectful way with those in the world around them. For me, I think being a caring person is intertwined with having a strong character.

You think these people are born this way or is there an act that triggers the non-ccaring emotions or feeling?

i think they are born that way! i don't think an act can trigger off someone to become anti-social. or borderline or socio-paths
there are some that have come from wonderful loving parents that had nothing "bad" happen to them

Question 1: A little of both, but I would lean more toward it being a series of choices that shapes how caring one can be.
Question 2: I agree.
Question 3: I think it depends on how much stock you put into the quality of caring. I think it depends on the person, so it is totally up to the individual on how much it affects one's character. I myself tend to think that caring is important in one's character, but it's not an all important characteristic.
