So we discussed my birthing options at the doctor yesterday

and I got totally freaked out.
I already had a baby, so I know what to expect but I got scared all over again.

My doctor mentioned I could try for a VBAC or opt for the scheduled c-section. She told me with a VBAC I wouldn't be getting as many drugs as I would be getting with a section. It's not even guaranteed that I will have a regular birth because it could always result in a c-section.

I *think* I'm leaning toward the scheduled section. I get to have the baby 2 weeks early too!

if it was my decision, i think i would consider 1. how easily i recovered from my last c-section and 2. how i would deal with having a baby and another child at home while recovering from a C.

only you know what's best for you!!

I agree with LB. Sometimes it may help to consider knowing what to expect. It may be easier for you to make plans for your care, the baby's care and Jared's care when you are home regardless of what you choose to do.

I'm in the same situation with you. I'm not even going to try for a VBAC, from what i've read there seems to be a lot of risk involved that i'm not willing to risk.

Re: So we discussed my birthing options at the doctor yesterday

I just have one DC and I did have a c-section. I know for me I will have a c-section with #2 as well for a number of reasons.
I personally just don't feel that the risks a v-bac can present are worth it. just my opinion. And I won't lie that delivering at 38 weeks sounds amazing!

Also I dont know what type of section you had last time (meaning did you go through labor/pushing to wind up in a section, was it scheduled etc)
But my Dr swears that a scheduled c-section is much more "pleasant" for mom and baby as their bodies aren't tired out and worn by the time they get to the OR but that its less trauma. I had a scheduled c-section the first time and I have to say it was a breeze. Again just my opinion.

Good Luck which ever you choose.

I had 10 hours of labor and only dialated 3cm. I didn't push at all. The doctor told me he thought it was best to go for the section.

I would do what you feel most comfortable with. I believe you have a wonderful support system where you would have alot of hands-on help, so you'd be able to recover nicely.

Good luck with your decision.

FYI. I was more anxious about my 2nd (and am now too with my 3rd) pregnancy. Chat Icon

I'm pretty much a birth junkie and have read a lot about VBACs -- here are my thoughts.

With a repeat C you are guarnateed major abodominal surgery, all the risks that go along with that and the difficult recovery.

With a VBAC, yes you might end-up in surgery, but you have a good chance of having a normal vaginal delivery -- better for the baby and none of the risks of the surgery involved for you.

See my Drs theory is that With a scheduled section, your baby and body dont have to work so hard to start so the whole thing (being you dont go through labor) is much easier, more predictable, etc.

My friend had a similar situation where she labored for many hours, did try pushing but couldnt get DS out and had a c-section. She said by the time she went in for surgery she was exhausted and didnt really "enjoy" the birth.

But she just had #2, a "scheduled" c-section (I say it that way because they had to move the date up 2 weeks to 36 weeks because baby didnt want to wait) and she said it was a much more pleasant experience.

Only you know what's best for you, your body and baby. Go with your gut. If you are interested in a VBAC do some research and make your decision. My decision when I have #2 is totally based on the easy recovery and great expereince I had with my first c-section.

PS, my dr is not a c-section advocate, as she doesn't even perform c-sections. So my c-section was performed by another Dr with my dr assisting.

Re: So we discussed my birthing options at the doctor yesterday

I had Ava c-section, because I was a week overdue. I was induced and was in horrible labor for over 2 days, got a fever, my blood pressure went really high, and I never dialated past 3 cm. Also, she was 9 lbs.

I would never want to do it to myself again.

This time, I am scheduled. They already gave me the day and time. I already put the money aside for a private room, and arranged it with my Mom, Dh and Mil, who will take care of Ava which days.

I like having the peace of mind, knowing when and how the birth will happen. My Doctors didn't really give me an option for a v-bac. But I guess every situation is different.

If it is something that you really want to do, just research it as much as possible. Your doctor seems very supportive. Good Luck in whichever way you decide to go!

You see, that is exactly why I want a scheduled section. I want to have the day arranged with my mother and I want to go in and know when to expect my little arrival!Chat Icon

Re: So we discussed my birthing options at the doctor yesterday

I had an emergency c-section with my DS - I was in labor over 36 hours.

With my DD - I opted for a scheduled c-section. I was scheduled 1 week before her due date. I found it much easier to do with my DS. I had my MIL come over in the morning and didn't have to worry about anything. It iwas just easier on all of us.

Plus I found the ecovery much much easier. My body did not have to go through the whole labor process and I was not physically exhausted. I was up and moving around that afternoon.

Good luck with whatever your decide to do. Chat Icon
