So we are baptizing on 1/13.

They basically narrowed down my godparent list in a matter of seconds.

Only 1 parent has to be Catholic. But this one has to be super duper catholic.

all sacraments, married in the church, and a letter from their parrish.

The non-Catholic MUST be a bapitzed Christian.

If the non-Catholic parent was ever a practicing catholic, they are automatically out. So if my brother was Catholic, but is slacking and not going to church, he is completely dismissed and I am unable to use his as the "non-Catholic" parent.

They did not hassle me at all though about Leo's religion being "N/A"

They just wanted the church info of where we were married so that was a plus.

Wow - you are on the ball!! We are waiting to pick the date until after the baby's born.

So are you picking the nun for the godmother?

eta: How do they know if the potential godparent is "practicing" or not? I hope my church is not going to be so strict.

That sounds good, that is kinda what my church told me. I am looking for a church that will say "the godparents can be anyone who was baptised and confirmed, practicing or not"

I am still on the hunt!!!

Congrats on getting this taken care of so soon Chat Icon

Chat Icon still up in the air. One sister is still in the running. She is the one I talk to the most, I was telling her we have a date, she says she can get the church letter..I said wait, its still between you or Karen. She said oh...my head says go one way, but my heart says go the other.

I have to decide. Luckily, Leo wanted his brother as godfather. He was baptized Catholic as a baby, then his parents switched to Pentecostal..but his brother never really went. So he is eligble to be godfather..that was easy.

I wanted to pick a date close to the birth..I can't deal with the thought of added on company coming back for the christening. So my Asheville sister will be heading back to school that weekend, she will be here. She can be the proxy-she hasn't been going to church so she is out. Then my mother might still be lingering too from her visit.

The letter knocked a lot of my choices out of the ballpark, and the married in the church thing.

Re: So we have a baptism date..Stephanie-here is my church info

DH is calling our parish too but we are shooting for April. I dont want a jan or feb christining( its going to be over a 100 people we both have HUGE families and we cant not invite some and not the others and some are out of town and we dont want the bad weather), march my dad is getting married and going on a 2 week honeymoon so that month is out too. We figured April is our 2nd anniversary so we will do it then. Plus my mom is making the christining outfit out of my wedding dress and this will give her time too.
