So what do you do when....
You are given no curriculum, just a list of topics and a binder of old worksheets ?
I teach 1st grade and this is what I was given for Social Studies.
asking the other teachers on my grade level is NOT an option.

Check the Common Core standards
Look at the list of topics and try to sequence them in the order that makes the most sense then search online for activities, projects and lessons on those topics

Definetly check the core curriculum and you can get books to read to the class and there are TONS of SS resources online (worksheets etc). I teach MS SS.

I taught 1st grade (eons ago, but it's still the same...) I did a lot of lessons related to family, community, and their world (school, home, neighborhood, etc...) We made simple maps of the school, classroom, and their own homes. I would search online for ANYTHING related to that.
Suburban/rural/urban concepts are more 2nd grade and the World including continents/oceans are 3rd.... I would stick with "All about me" kind of stuff.
