So what's the deal with evaporation lines?
I took a test this morning and got one line, so BFN. Went back to bed and checked it a few hours later, and 2 lines. Of course I now have my hopes back up because AF hasn't showed.
What to make of this second line??
Okay, just found this online:
Evaporation Lines Evaporation lines, however, can confound results if tests are not interpreted within the clinically recommended time frame. An evaporation line develops when the urine on the test area begins to dry, leaving a faint, usually colorless line. Evaporation lines appear to show up (or not show up) as a result of the composition of the particular urine specimen - and they may appear on any test regardless of brand.
In my case, the line was pink, not colorless.
Guess I am still confused!

I wouldn't trust any line that comes up after the 3-5 minute window. I'd just take another test tomorrow. Good luck!

if you could wait till tomorrow I would test in the am, but I know I would probably not drink and hold my urine for the next couple of hours and retest.

Re: So what's the deal with evaporation lines?
I would def retest in the am. Good chance you could be pg, especially that it was a pink line...
Last month I took a CVS early result test and within 2 mins a second blue line appeared..however the line was super skinny..it didn't look at all like the line I had with my son.
I took another test a few hours later..negative, then the next morning..negative. I soon got my period. I am 100% sure it was a bad evap line although it came up within 2 minutes!!!
Retest and keep us posted!! I have heard stories of the pink line appearing after the time frame and they were def PG!!

Re: So what's the deal with evaporation lines?
I have another test in the house so of course I am tempted to test again! I didn't wait 3 minutes this morning to see a line, because when I got pg with DS, the second line showed up right away. So when the line didn't show up right away, I gave up and went back to bed. Argh!

Re: So what's the deal with evaporation lines?
I would test again, just don't diltute your urine too much...the fact that you have a pink line that is obvious I woud think would result in another line regardless of time of day (even if its fainter).
Good luck!!

Cool thanks for the advice. I just had a glass of iced tea with lunch, so how long should I wait now?

Re: So what's the deal with evaporation lines?
My first really early BFPs at like 9 and 10 DPO I couldn't see the line until after the recomended waiting tme but it was pink.....faint but pink.
My understanding is that evaporation lines are invisible or grey because you need teh HCG hormone to "grab the die" and make teh line pink...............
Sounds promising!!!

I'd wait 4 hours. Keep in mind though that a 4 hour hold is not equivalent to FMU.
If you can't wait until tomorrow to test again with FMU, then I'd hold your urine for 4 hours and try not to drink too much.
Best of luck!

Re: So what's the deal with evaporation lines?
first response - early detection i found to be the easiest one to read... with a faint line the first day, the second day it got stronger- and clearblue digital early was able to detect also then .... i had the worst time trying to read the dollar store ones...definately test first in the morning
