Me! I'm going to the gym in the early a.m. then decorating my house! It pays to be poor on Black Friday - keeps me closer to my morals

Re: So who is joining me tomorrow?
I probably won't buy anything except for a traditional Chinese dress that I need to get to wear to a wedding in China (for BIL and FSIL). Since I have off from work I am heading to a few good stores to try to get something. But that has nothing to do with Black Friday!

Does a haircut count? It is consumer spending but I'm not shopping.

Re: So who is joining me tomorrow?
I mostly shop online. But no deals appealing to me this year today.
I cannot conceive waking up at 3am, wait 2 hours oustide to save $30 on a toy.
Today is fun day with DS. We only have 1 therapist right now then the whole day for us.
We will do our Christmas tree. DH is working anyway.

Re: So who is joining me tomorrow?
I'm doing out of respect for the poor people who had to leave their families to be at a store so everyone else can have a deal.
I am truly saddened that Thanksgiving has lost its meaning.

I am truly saddened that Thanksgiving has lost its meaning. It has nothing to do with thanksgiving losing its meaning, People just dont want to go shopping on Black friiday because of how mobbed the stores are going to be .. I would rather go on a saturday or sunday to do my shopping... Yes Black friday has the good sales, But they will continue until christmas.

Black Friday has always been Black Friday. But in recent years, seems like the past 3, rather than stores opening at 7 instead of 9 am, they open at midnight or even worse, they are open ON Thanksgiving so that people can take advantage of a friggin sale. That, to me, shows that Thanksgiving has lost its meaning. It's more about shopping than gratitude.
I hated when stores started opening on New Years. Now they are open on TG. What's next, Christmas? What I'm getting at is that the greed these giant stores have ruins the true meaning of the holiday.
As I said, Black Friday has always been its own thing. I choose NOT to partake in it because the crowds are just NOT worth the deals. But when Black Friday begins at 6pm on THURSDAY...that is disrespectful of the holiday.

My youngest DD works in a retail store in a mall and went in at 3am.(she was not happy) They have a 40% off sale that started Monday and goes thru Sunday. I feel for her./ I don't know how many people will rush in at 3 a.m. to try on clothes!

That i agree with you, My dh works in retail and he had to be at work at 4am this morning!!! and his store was open Yesterday, But he was off, He agrees about people being greedy and opening up on holidays, The holidays should be about family not going to stores to try clothes on. But Black friday i still stick to my opinion on that!

true, but technically isn't the holiday based on something not really to be proud of...
