Social Acceptance....who decides what and at what age?
seriously.....why is it ok for a child to fart in public and giggle or excuse themselves but at some age it becomes UNacceptable to fart in public....WHY is that?
What other acts are deemed acceptable at one age and then not?

Re: Social Acceptance....who decides what and at what age?
Honestly, I don't ever remember a time in my life (and I have a loooong memory) where my parents deemed it acceptable for me to do any of those things just because I was a kid. I have strict parents though.

Because a child doesn't know any better. Adults are supposed to. Although I have my doubts about some I have encountered.
Let me add that when I say child, I mean someone who is a toddler. If you are over the age of 8, you should know better.

Re: Social Acceptance....who decides what and at what age?
Honestly, I don't think it should EVER be socially acceptable.
I try to teach my stepkids (who are both boys) that if they have to release gas, they need to do it in the bathroom. I don't want to be subject to cheese doodle farts!

I agree.
My five year old & three year old will say "Excuse me" but the other winds up giggling anyway.

As soon as you know better you should stop those kind of behaviors.
That age may vary from child to child.
And it's the parents responsibility to teach them right from wrong in those cases.

or a 4 year old for that matter. DS knows to say excuse me but he is still too young to control it. Half the time he doesnt know he did it.

I'm not talking really young ones here. But honestly, by the age of 6, you should really know to go into the bathroom.

Re: Social Acceptance....who decides what and at what age?
Your example is something a toddler cannot control, so its acceptable because physically they dont have the control over their bodies....Like wearing diapers because they dont have control.
It becomes unacceptable when they are able to control their own bodies.
Do you have another example of something thats not physical?

Re: Social Acceptance....who decides what and at what age?
Its NEVER acceptable, unless if it's an accident or couldnt be controlled. Babies and children under 6 are excused!
