How do I find one in my area for my 11 year old son?

social skills groups
Here are some organizations who currently offer or have offered social skills groups in the past. I am not sure what the age range of their groups are though. I would ask if my child can sit in on one class or at least observe a class myself before having to commit to paying for a program.
FM me if interested in any and I may have contact names/numbers or email addresses if you are not able to find it on line.

The Cody Center has social skills groups.
Cody center is no longer around.
Out of the list above the only reputable places to look at would be mid island (EXCELLENT program!!), Variety, and Kidz.
Variety and Kidz may be too young. I don't think they go past early childhood but kidz may have something.
Mid Island JCC has older kids programs.

That's a shame. My brother attended social skills groups there and it was wonderful for him.

I would also ask the school psychologist or guidance counselor at your child's school. they would probably have places in the area they refer families to. Also, many schools do things like "lunch bunch" or other programs during school hours. (depending on the program, it may or may not have to be on their IEP).
