Social-workey places that are hiring?
Given what is going on at work as of late, I am thinking of putting my feelers out there.
I haven't taken the LMSW exam yet though (basically out of sheer laziness).
I'd prefer not to have to commute back into the city, not do lots of field work unless the job supplies the vehicle, I won't put a client IN my car and looking for something with a somewhat flexible schedule and benefits. Do jobs like these exist?
TIA!!

have you looked into hospitals? they usually give you a certain amount of time post hire to get your L. plus a lot of them dont even follow up on it.

This is what I would REALLY like to do because of the benefits.
It just seems like all of the ads I see require an L.

They do, what they dont tell you is that they give you time to get it. You may a little overqualified given ur sup experience (although I'm not sure) since they tend to hire recent grads. I'd sign up for the exam asap so you can tell them in the interview youre working on it. The tests pretty easy.

Re: Social-workey places that are hiring?
Thanks!
I'd love to get into the LIJ health system.
I have a ton of experience doing discharge planning (although not IN a hospital) so I think that could be helpful.
Yeah, I need to take the stupid test already.

Re: Social-workey places that are hiring?
what about another home care agency? Our MSWs have a very different job than what you do in your position and are actually forbidden from ever taking any patients in their cars.
I know you said it's sheer laziness that you haven't taken the exam yet, but what else is holding you back? You seem like a very hard worker from your posts and know your field- so why are you intentionally limiting yourself?

Re: Social-workey places that are hiring?
Thanks for the response!
If I could find an agency that offers good benefits (possibly unionized) I would consider it.
I did take the suggestion about applying to hospitals and did that over the weekend as well.
I have never needed my L before so I have gotten lazy and stagnant about following up on it.
But yeah, I think it's totally time to push out of my comfort zone!

Have you looked into an agency like MercyFirst? You'd be working with teenagers in a residential setting, but I know you never have to use your own vehicle. They have good benefits.

Re: Social-workey places that are hiring?
Thanks ladies.
My boss I think is trying to take into consideration my suggestions lately so hopefully that will continue.
I'd still like to send out resumes though because I don't want to end up kicking myself later for letting a good opportunity pass me by.
I guess it is what it is though in this economy.
Hospitals I think are still going to be my #1 choice.
DH and I really cannot afford to take a pay-cut to go to a non-profit. That kind of stress would not be worth it to me.

My agency is always hiring for social workers or casac's...they will even pay for you to get your casac if you need it if you work for us...only thing is we are in nyc.

I worked there for 6 years. They require that all social workers have an L now. But, I am working at Family service League and they have tons of programs throughout Suffolk County and are hiring.
