Socialized healthcare
You all realize that we do have socialized healthcare right now, right?
Unfortunately, we have the most expensive and least effective version in the whole world. This reduces quality of care, quality of life and leads many in dire financial situations.
If you show up at an emergency room, you are treated. However millions are prevented from basic preventative care and simple procedures/medications.
It would be so much cheaper for us to pay for blood pressure meds for a poor person than for their heart attack. That person could then continue working, paying taxes, and being a contributing member of society and to their family/loved ones.
Why do we do this?
Capitalism needs the threat of losing health insurance in order to work. If you weren’t scared of losing health insurance, you might not show up and allow your company to exploit you. It pits one working man against another. Allows you to feel special and better than the person who hasn’t “earned” health insurance. That feeling of superiority keeps you voting to keep the other man down, allowing capitalism to continue to exploit. Meanwhile the people with insurance are paying ridiculous costs to cover the inefficiency in the system (see above).
What if healthcare was a human right?
If everyone participated in healthcare, costs would significantly decrease. Google the cost of insulin in Europe or Canada. Quality of life would go up for all. Cost (paid via taxes) could go down for all.

Socialized healthcare
You are absolutely right. I think the whole system needs an overhaul and I don't understand why people on the right are so against this. My job is so stressful but I stay for the healthcare, despite what the stress is doing for myself. And the self employed and small business owners paying thousand or more monthly for health insurance policies that in essence are just discount plans is unreal to me. And medicaid is a joke....

And the mandatory care at the ER was signed into law by Reagan. So, the only National Socialized medicine we have in the US was signed by the idolized "ideal" Republican President...
And one of the (many) problems with privatized health care is that when many people need it the most, is when their employer lays them off...

Re: Socialized healthcare
Healthcare, by its very nature, is socialized. We all pay into a pot whether we use it or not. Sometimes we use a little, sometimes alot, sometimes none... but we keep paying into the pot so the next guy can use it and take out what he needs. And if you don't have healthcare you can still go to the ER and the rest of us will pick up the tab. All insurance is socialism. Our version of it is just the least efficient in the developed world and so much more expensive than other developed nations have figured out. How can anyone be ok with people going bankrupt because of exorbitant medical bills? Americans rationing their insulin and dying in the process. Cancer patients choosing to die instead of running up medical bills that would financially ruin their family. It's disgusting. We can do better and we should do better.
