Some good news... UPDATE
Well, I got the job!! The only thing is they salary. They haven't told me what it is yet, but they cannot match my current salary. I'm a little disappointed because my current salary is within their range for the position (albeit the high end). But its a city job, and there really isn't a lot of negotiation.
So I am waiting for an e-mail with a specific number. But either way, I am happy I got the offer! It really is a feather in my cap.
UPDATE: So I got the offer from the woman I first interviewed with. They are "authorized to offer me" $15K less than what I currently make. IF things weren't so tough right now, I would have taken it on the spot. But things ARE tough, so I need to consider it.
DH and I both got home very late last night. Its a Jewish holiday and I took DD to temple. So when DH came home from work, it was 10:00 before we even strated discussing it.
With the offered benefits (which I need to confirm) its a difference of about o$8K. I am going to ask for that amount, but since I am pretty sure the job is not negotiable, I am not expecting to get it.
DH and I crunched the numbers last night, and I am pretty sure I am going to take it!!! I swear, at 10:30- after being so exhausted. I actually did a happy dance!
I AM SO EXCITED!! Its very exciting for me. It's so different from what I have been doing. I have been practicing litigation in commercial litigation and construction law for the last 8 years. This new job is managing the defense unit of the NYC Child SUpport Enforcement Unit. I will be managing 3 attorneys. Hopefully, this will be a good step for my career.
And most importantly NO BILLABLE HOURS!!!
So ijust need to confirm some stuff about the benefits, try to get some more $, then I'll be accepting the offer and entering the wonderful world of the city's red tape!!

Re: Some good news...
I know the feeling. I was recently offered a government position and turned it down because of the salary. Either way it felt great to be chosen out of the numerous people they interviewed.

Re: Some good news... UPDATE
Hi,
Can I make a suggestion---it is something that both my husband and I have done in the past where they weren't offering as much as we had liked... Ask for an additional weeks paid vacation if they won't budge on the salary... I've done this before and it was granted...it also comes in hand when you have children...
Good luck and congrats!
