She's lucky you or someone else didn't call the cops! Let her try to explain how a 3 year old should have been responsible, uhm, no, that's not her job!
And really, for a dam* cell phone yet? Couldn't whatever stupid call she had to make wait? Or take the kids with you, either or.
That's a really busy shopping center too! Not that I would think this is ok anywhere, but esp. not there.

That is such an awful story- who leaves a little girl alone like that- even for a second! 
My DH found an 18 month old in his diaper wandering in TRAFFIC (imagine Northern Blvd in the middle lane). How he didn't get hit is anyone's guess. My DH was so tramuatized for the longest time. They had to call the police and ended up going door to door to find the parents. They didn't even know he had wandered outside

I can not believe it.. i actually worked as manager and that gap and Dh was a manager at that waldbaums.. Some of the parents were totally a piece of work.. but I would have also said something to her like you have to be careful cops can arrest you for things like this.. Also i can not imagine what would have happened if you did not find her.. .

Actually, it's a good thing you bit your your tongue. Who knows what could've happened if you did say something? The nut job of a mother could've taken it out on the little girl when they got home.
