some please help me understand why my 2 yr old does this????
She wakes around 7 and naps at 1130...she goes down for a nap no problem basically shes right out as soon as i put her in..HOWEVER at bedtime which is about 730 it takes her a good hr to fall asleep....i sometimes have to go in there to tell her to go to bed and at the point she goes right out...
things i have done ..i tried to put her to bed later and the same thing happens...AND i tried to tire her out and the same thing happens... I cant for the life of me can figure out why it takes her so long and why about 80% of the the time i or my huband has to go in her room to tell her to get to bed and she goes right out? im so confused
TIA

Re: some please help me understand why my 2 yr old does this????
The only thing that comes to mind is maybe to put her to bed EARLIER or rearrange naps because she's overtired?
At 2 years old, my kids were still on 2 naps - about 1-2 hours.
10sih & 2 ish, bedtime is 7ish.
They only lost their naps around 3-4 yo.
As far as I"m aware, most daycares have 2 year olds having 2 naps too.

How long is her nap at 11:30?
It takes Jack anywhere from 15mins-1hour to fall asleep - I think he just really likes to unwind.
He naps from 1-3 and then is down for the night between 7:15-7:30 the latest

Re: some please help me understand why my 2 yr old does this????
my 2 year old is the same way, and the second she just keeps quiet or still for a second- out. And a nap-- no problem. But other than that its a good hour of turning over, talking, singing, etc.
I once read somewhere that when a child has learned something new- like a new phrase, song, word..falling asleep for them would be the same as us falling asleep after a big party at our house or the night before a presentation at work. Their minds are just wheeling and they cant relax.
I tried the same methods as you, running them all over the mall to tire them out or having a playdate over for dinner, reading books and quieting music for hours on end, I basically tried every tactic there is and the only one that seems to make sense is the one above. They need to just stop thinking for a second!

Jack is 20 months.
At night it takes him that long to unwind. I think of it as I know sometimes when I get into bed but I need watch TV to actually fall asleep and pass out. I imagine it's the same for them (Minus the TV part)
If she's not crying or fussing I personally wouldn't worry about it - and she's sleeping through the night too!
I would also push her nap back a little later in the day if you can. She will probably take a longer nap. I got that advice from girls on here and it def. worked. I was only getting an hour (1.5 TOPS) now it's two hours - sometimes longer!

Did you ever try moving the nap back Nance? Remember Ryans naps were getting shorter and shorter until I pushed them back and he still goes to bed at the same time. Come to think of it I remember him being really over tired during those weeks too!

Re: some please help me understand why my 2 yr old does this????
I personally think it has less to do with her napping and more to do with her being 2. She probably doesn't want to miss anything, or has been going for so long since her nap that it's hard for her to settle down. As long as she doesn't give you a hard time after you go in and tell her to settle, then I don't think it's a big deal. I know Ava needs kind of toss and turn a bit at bedtime some nights to get some of that last bit of energy out.
