Some Silly Questions about Holiday Cards, Picture Invites, etc.
OK -I'm hearing from people that I "need" to do both picture holiday cards as well as picture invites since it's his first birthday. Jordan's birthday is Jan 21st, less than a month after the holidays. If your DC had a birthday near the holidays - Dec or Jan - did you really do pics for both?
Also, this might be silly, but I feel like I don't know what pics to use - do I take a holiday pic for the holiday card? Do I just pick one that I like even if it's not current? Same questions for pic invite - I know some take one year old pics early so they have them for the invite...but I don't want to do that. So, what type of pic or pics do I use for a first birthday invite?
Thanks so much!
Michal

DD's birthday is January 16. I did a photo holiday card because that's what I would do no matter what... I've never done a photo birthday invite for her.
I did take her for birthday pictures though - on her birthday, not before. I used that for thank you cards last year (2nd birthday).

Thanks, ladies.
Yeah - since we're down in Florida, the party is going to be pretty small Given a choice, I would definitely do a holiday card pic over bday invite just because so many more people will see the holiday card.

I did regular invites for his 1st birthday. So much easier on me...Don't listen to what others say all the time..His party is on Oct. 23rd. I am doing a holiday photo card like I did last year. SO many more people will see it...

Re: Some Silly Questions about Holiday Cards, Picture Invites, etc.
I did, but that is only because I really enjoy taking pics of DS and enjoy playing with photo cards. Since I did them myself, everything was free (except printing). I actually sent out a "he's turning one" card to everyone and then did a photo invite for his b'day party which we kept smal. For the Christmas card I had photo frame cards I found the year before at 75% off and printed the pics to put in them. I also found deals for printing, the photos and photo cards.
For his birthday invite, I emailed the invites, so I didn't have to pay for printing. Then after the party I did photo thank yous that I had printed and mailed out.
But yes I am crazy, in a matter of a month our friends and family received 4 photo cards from us.

Just pick one you want for the holiday. You definitely do not need to do a picture invite! I think we are going to be in Boca for his birthday BTW

Not a winter baby but for my ds #1's first bday I did a regular invite and not a pic. It isn't required. I would do a pic Holiday card, regular invite, and if you have a pic you love from the birthday you can do a picture thank you note.

Re: Some Silly Questions about Holiday Cards, Picture Invites, etc.
Yes!!!!! My Jordan was born on Jan 11th and we did x-mas pics early december and then birthday pics the week of her birthday. I just felt like I had to. Why shouldn't she have seperate pics because of when she was born. Now she is 9 and I am so glad I have all those pics
Birthday Pics were not necessarily for an invite, just Birthday pics to have!

Im just going to take a picture of Luke, myself, to use for his 1st birthday invite. I did 1st birthday pics for DD and while they are really cute, they are a waste. I'll do Holiday pictures instead!

Maybe one photoshoot and two or three outfits. The one you want to use for his birthday you try not to show anyone until then.

Re: Some Silly Questions about Holiday Cards, Picture Invites, etc.
We do picture holiday cards each year. I send out about 100 to various family and friends! DS are born in Sept and Aug and I have never done a picture invite. If they want to see pictures of my kids, look on FB or wait for my holiday card

Re: Some Silly Questions about Holiday Cards, Picture Invites, etc.
DS's birthday is December 12th. We sent out both. For his 1st birthday, I just used some pictures that we had already taken. I printed the invites and holiday cards from Costco so it was pretty cheap to do.

DD's birthday is 12/4 - for her first birthday I sent out an email. No mailed invite, no picture - nothing. Just an email.

Re: Some Silly Questions about Holiday Cards, Picture Invites, etc.
We did a holiday picture card last year and a card with a photo on it for his birthday invite.
We were VERY last minute with the birthday invite, so I bought invites from Target that had balloons and stuff around the edges. Then since I was printing the info on my printer myself, I added a picture of DS as well (the pic was one we took of a homemade cake smash.) Nothing fancy, but I use any opportunity to show off my boy.
For christmas cards, I'm partial to holiday pictures but for the birthday invite, if you do a picture, I'd just use one you like. If I had had time, I probably would have done it with a picture from each month.
