Some test tomorrow?
Not sure what it is...I will be 12 weeks. Its the alternative to the amnio, I think they take blood and do a sono. Question is...do you think I might be able to find out the sex tomorrow? Will it just be a tech? Anyone had this test before?
I think they are looking at the back of the babies neck.

Hmm...I dont know. It has some special name. They take blood, do a sono, and in 3 weeks I have to go back and do it again.
Is this an odd thing to be doing? I asked about an amnio and he said this is the safest bet with accurate results.

I think your talking about the AFP test they are checking the odds of your DC having any abnormalities

Begins with an A so thats the ticket!  So, is the test a usual procedure? What should I expect? And do you think I might find out the sex because that would be oh so exciting!!

Alot of people are given the choice on whether or not they want the test done . They did the Sono first then they sent me to the lab to have blood drawn then I had to go back 2 wks later to the lab and get blood drawn again .
I dont know about finding out the sex they usually wait till your 20 wk level II to do that but some techs takea guess !

yeah, it sounds like you are having the ultrascreen, aka nuchal translucency test. It's a nice sono b/c the baby looks like a tiny person finally and the blood is a finger prick.

YEP I did it too. AFP (also called MSAFP-maternal serum alpha feta protein I think?) and the nuchal trans - please note these are only 'screening' tests so they're looking for "markers" that would indicate a higher than average risk factor, they are not meant to be conclusive, diagnostic tests so if there's any indication of elevated risk there will be other tests done for confirmation...
