Someone hit by a train in Valley Stream...
anyone hear about it? I was stuck for a few on my westbound train from East Rockaway...
it happened at 9 am...
it was kind of freaky, we say a helicopter sitting on Sunrise with a ton of emergency vehicles.
Can't find the story anywhere...

Yeah - DH called me to tell me that his good friend is on the train (they were supposed to meet up this afternoon). From what he knew - sounds like a LIRR employee might have been hit - but that is NOT confirmed. That one train is still on the track and can't move.
ETA from LIRR Alert:
We are experiencing residual 5-to-10 minute delays on the Babylon, Long Beach, Far Rockaway and West Hempstead branches. Service had been suspended earlier on these branches due to an individual struck by a train west of Valley Stream Station.
Train service has been restored at St. Albans Station.
The train invovled in the incident -- the 9:12 AM from Babylon, scheduled to arrive Penn Station at 10:24 AM -- is operating approximately 75 minutes late.

An LIRR worker was struck by a train Wednesday morning near Valley Stream station.
The man, who was not identified, is believed to be a track worker, said LIRR spokeswoman Susan McGowan. The worker was struck at 9:55 a.m. just west of Valley Stream station by the 9:12 local train from Babylon, she said.
He was taken to Nassau County Medical Center. LIRR Acting President Ray Kenny was on his way to the hospital, McGowan said.
No other details were immediately available

Since my brother works for the LIRR, I called his cell to make sure he was ok. Hw was working and is fine, but he was inside that train when it happened. He heard when it happened too (the sounds ) and was horrified when he found out what it was  I don't know all the details, but I'm so sad for the guy's family and so relieved my brother's ok.
