Someone needs to tell him...
The chair is for sitting- not standing, because no matter how many times I tell him, and no matter how many times he has fallen he STILL refuses to sit! BTDT- how do I stop him from doing this? I have tried saying "no sit" calmy and redirecting him to sitting the right way- I have ignored it, I have even tried to "yell" and be stern... but he is just so damn cute I cant help but laugh when he does it!

Re: Someone needs to tell him...
How hurt does he get?
Maybe I'm a bad mommy -- but Emily climbs on her chair and I try not to freak .... I think she just doesn't know that you aren't supposed to climb chairs......I think it's just part of them testing out boundries....

Cute! The way I see it your choices are to fake being angry & be stern OR buy really short chairs. You could also try to take away the chair & put that in time out.

But do they really understand "you" being angry at this age????
Like DH yells NO from across the room- and all that does is make him freeze for a second until he goes onto climbing....
He dosent get hurt hurt- but he does fall each and everytime...
The thing is when he gets on the chair it plays music- so as soon as he gets up there he starts to dance and shake his booty.... (hence making him fall- and my hysterical laughter )

Re: Someone needs to tell him...
We do so many silly things to her with her voice to make her laugh that Emily laughs at us if we get stern with her...
If I tell her "no no " she just goes around the house singing "no no no no no no mimi (how she says Emily) like she's pretending to be a mean momma...
so no, I don't think they understand.
Maybe if he falls a few times he'll realize that it's better to dance on the floor? And be thankful that it's on a carpet as opposed to ceramic tile or hardwood floors?
Honestly aside from taking the chair away until he's a bit older ... I don't think there is much that you can do?

When Ryan was that age I could give him time outs, yell, stand on my head, beg .... nothing work. But when I put the toy in timeout-- well that worked. My friends always laughed at me, but I tell ya.... IT WORKS!!!!

OMG Marissa, he is too cute!
You know whats funny I posted the same thing (and same chair!) just about a year ago! LOL
My Post
got alot of good advice... but mostly, I didn't get excited, just continued to say 'no, please sit down' or 'we sit on chairs' or 'booty on the chair' over and over... finally he got it. Of course now there are random times that he is still trying to climb, stand or jump on something I either give a look or tell him to sit and he does.

Re: Someone needs to tell him...
It doesn't look that high. If he's not getting hurt I guess I wouldn't worry that much about it. I really don't know how much they understand at this age. Everytime I tell Miranda know she smiles and thinks it's a game so honestly I just try to ignore things and hope that if it doesn't get her attention she'll stop doing them.

Re: Someone needs to tell him...
Funny. At least he didn't start until now. Gianni has been doing that since 6-7 months. Now he's on to bigger and better things. I found him on the top of the back of my toilet and then he climbed his way over to the sink. I've found him standing on the kids table set I have, trying to climb to the window. OMG, it only you knew where I've found this boy! I guess it's a boy for you!

Re: Someone needs to tell him...
My son climbs on it too. He also climbs on my bay window, coffee tables, and couch! I need a net to catch him!
