Someone please come in and help Stupid UPDATE...I think it's my destiny to NEVER order one of these things!!!!
so, I've never ordered one of those "foot" hero's before.
I was plannning on ordering one 3 ft hero and a bunch of wraps as far as sandwiches go. there will be other food and salads as well.
a few questions
does the foot sandwich come already pre cut?
how many pieces do you usually get out of the hero? (ie if is says it serves 10-12, is that accurate?)
I am a bit leery b/c every party I've ever gone to with one of these sandwiches there has always been so much left over. I don't want to do that.
what have you all done?
I anticipate having around 40 people. it's a lunch time baby shower.
there will also be quiche, shrimp cocktail, pasta salad, green salad, fruit salad, hot dogs and maybe chicken or steak.
the wraps will be cut into 5 pieces. I am still kicking around how many to order. at least 10, I think.
UPDATE! so, guess what. dh saw my "menu" with no hot food and totally put the KABASH on it.
so now I am back to cooking.
the NEW menu will be
sides/apps
fruit salad mixed green salad mini rice and prosciutto balls enchiladas antipasto platter
mains
hot dogs hamburgers stuffed shells orecchiette with broccoli rabe grilled chicken grilled sausage
cake.
beer wine Izze and wine spritzer lemonade soda

Jess, you may not need the hero with that other stuff.
I'm personally not a fan of the big heros but that's just me.

I would agree with skipping the heroes…I don’t think most women (who would be at a shower) like those kinds of heroes. Wraps would be easier to eat and more popular, so I would just do more wraps and skip the heroes. They always remind of me of parties in middle school. (no offense if anyone totally loves those kinds of heroes…!)

there will be men and kids there too...
so you think it's better to just do wraps?

I would do wraps. I always feel that those heros are too big to manuever and are awkward to eat. Not to mention how bready they are.

Yes, they come precut. I would do both wraps and a hero. Guests can take some home if you dont want the left overs. I think most guys like heros (and so do I)

Depends on the place. I've gotten cut and uncut so I would make sure when ordering. I personally would do the wraps. Much more plate friendly in that kind of atmosphere.

I agree! And yes, you can always wrap up a few slices for guests to take home! That's what we did at a party last night.

Re: Someone please come in and help Stupid
you can get it cut...just make sure you ask..... i would get the hero...and wraps....i always like to have more food than less!....you can also get the hero half american and half italian..they usually come w/mayo, mustard and italian dressing on the side....i would say each "sandwich" when cut is about 2 inches...so you figure about 18-20, maybe 22 sandwiches per 3 footer
you can also get different types of 3 footers like a chicken cutlet with mozzarella and red pepper (yum!)....
everytime i get a hero for parties...it usually all goes and if it doesn't it's my lunch the next day!!

Re: Someone please come in and help Stupid
Uusally the place that you cater it from will cut it . you can get 1/2 american & 1/2 italian .. My family got so tired of the old ho hum heros , instead of cold cutes we order the chicken cutlet one. Chicken cutlet roasted peppers & mozarella with lettuce... Its more filling & that way we can get rid of the chciken dish thats normally there. Hope that makes sense

I like your new menu.
While I am totally a fan of heroes (especially the fantastic fancy big ones from The Pork Store) - I just don't see them being very 'you'.
Please tell me you aren't manning the grill and cooking all this on your own!

Jess I think this is a better menu. I have to agree with DH.
Help yourself a little and get some of it from a really good Italian Deli.
Like you need more stress.
I know cooking probably de-stresses you though.
Big fat hero...nah, not you.
