Someone please tell me he'll survive this cold!

He's so miserable... coughing, sneezing, and I think achy because whenever I lift him he cries Chat Icon

I don't have a rectal thermometer - I went to CVS because I have a store credit there, and they didnt have one... I don't have the money right now to buy it anywhere else - I have a regular one for babies that I put under his arm pit, but I dont think its completely accurate - I'm hoping for the best. He seems to have a slight fever so I gave him Tylenol...

I feel so bad for him. He just has that "I have a cold" look. I just want him to be happy again....

How long does it take a young baby to fight a cold?

Lukie had one at about the same age. He'll be fine!! Keep him hydrated, head elevated, warm moist air around him. He should kick it and be back to normal in about a week Chat Icon

turn of the shower really hot and let the bathroom get really steamy. Stay in there for about 15 min and it will help.

Also if you have some saline drops and try to keep his head elevated. It will get better

The rectal thermometors shouldnt be mor ethen like $5-$7 ? You cant even borrow that amount? Or return something?

I would want to make sure he doesnt have a fever....

Of he doesnt, then I would not be too worried, it happens...and it could be a reaction to his shots. Not sure what he had recently...but some shots have an incubation period of a certain amount of time before the cold appears....Did you look into that??

I will call the ped and ask tomorrow- but do they get things like coughs and runny noses? He seemd to recover so well from the vaccs, and the symptoms he ha now are suspiciously like DH's when he was sick this week...

yes, they get colds. Lucas had a cough, post nasal drip, even wheezing around 8 weeks. I took him to the ped just to make sure his lungs were clear. Just try to keep them as comfy as possible. YOU can get through thisChat Icon

So funny you said that - DH said when I called him - "What, you thought he wouldnt ever get a cold?"

I said to him - I thought maybe he'd be like Damian from the Omen - where he never got sick Chat Icon

DH was like - yeah, but I wouldnt have waited til he got the nanny and the pit bull to realize that something was strange with him if that were the case!

I think Luca was only 3-4 weeks when he had his first cold- and he survived just fine. Like I suggested earlier, just put a humdifier in his room, and squeeze out his nose and give him Tylenol as needed. He'll be better before you know it. Chat Icon

You will make itChat Icon We got through RSV and a hospital stay at 2 weeks old. It was awful and I felt the way you did- like what I can do to make it better.

I would get the themometer- just for your peace of mind. They are really cheap- doesn't have to be a special oneChat Icon

He will survive the cold (and so will you).Chat Icon

I wouldnt' bother with the pediatrician unless he becomes miserable with it.

To help alleviate congestion, I would leave them upright or let them sleep in their car seat. If it was very bad, I would pour some euculptus (spelling?) oil on a tissue & put it near them.

I may have some left over. If I do, I can get it to you sometime tomorrow night.
