Someone sent us a check written out to our baby!
Obviously he doesn't have a checking account, will we have problems depositing or cashing a check written out to Cailen?

Not at all, all of DD christening checks were made out to her. Our bank didnt give us a hard time at all but I would bring his social security card and birth certificate incase they want it on file.
edited to say we deposited them into our account she doesnt have her own.
we got her a whole life policy through new york life that we put money into every month for her college fund or what ever she wants to spend it on when she is 18.

It's not a problem for us since our son has a savings account... but we do laugh because everyone writes "Jack" rather then his real name "John" and heck the bank even accepts them.

Yes, we got tons of checks written to our 8 day old on the day of his bris. We opened a savings account for him.

I just opened an accound in my sons name today. I want to keep the $ for him, so I did it right away, we received a few $ gifts, and with the christening this summer, I figured I'd better get on in. Some checks were made out to him, some to DH and I ... I put them all in his new account.

We just print their name on the back, then sign and deposit into our account. We have monthly deductions from our account into their 529 accounts, so it goes there each month.

You can open a checking account in his name. I never write checks to the parents when I give a gift.
