Sometimes I hate having an old house

I went to put or storm windows in just now. Out of the 15, I only got 8 of them in.

The house must have settled or something, they are each off by like 1/4 of an inch. Some I can get one corner in, but not the rest of the window. I've tried flipping them every which way possible and still can't do it. I don't want to force them because I'm afraid of them breaking (straight up plate glass Chat Icon )

Oh - the perils of owning an 80-year-old home with ORIGINAL windows! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Aww Chat Icon I was thinking the same thing about character though! Maybe the holidays will bring you some new windows? Chat Icon

Oh how I wish! Chat Icon

Unfortunately, it's not as simple as getting new windows. It would turn into a waterfall event. In order to replace the windows, we'd have to replace the frames (which we suspect are rotted). In order to replace the frames, they would have to demolish some plaster, in which case might cause the walls to crack as they are all plaster.

But hey, it does have character, right? Chat Icon Chat Icon

I'm just destined to live in a cold, drafty, charming house forever.

I love it, I really do, but it's not as easy to maintain at times. Chat Icon

tell me about it. My new front door will take extra labor for installation because the walls are crooked.

Yup! If we ever decide to replace our side door, it will have to be custom-made because there's not a single straight line in this house. Oh - and not to mention the fact that it's not a standard-size door.

Ugghh, my parents house is like that too. Built in the 30's and most of their windows still have the rope pulley in them - and the previous owners painted them. Chat Icon

of course..everything is custom..everything is on an angle.

But our houses have such charm. Everyone loves them. Yeah, next house will be a standard sized everything.
