Sometimes I think we're better off without technology...

So, most of you know that yesterday at my 20 week ultrasound the technician saw what she thought was a Chiroid Plexus Cyst, which, in only 1% of the cases, is an indicator of Trisomy 18. So, the radiologist calls my ob in a frenzy and tells them to refer me to a perinatologist, and of course, I FREAK OUT. After doing much research last night, I called my ob's office again today to ask if the ultrasound showed any other anomalies because if it IS Trisomy, the ultrasound would show other types of defects. My Dr. puts me on hold while he pulls up the report, gets back on the phone and says, nope, everything looks great. In fact, the ultrasound report says everything is normal except "Cyst/Brain Fold". I freak out - BRAIN FOLD??? WHAT'S THAT??? My doctor retorts - oh, that just means that the radiologist isn't even sure that it's a cyst, and that it could very well just be a normal brain fold.

Ummmmm, you didn't think that information was pertinent yesterday?????

Especially with the internet as a resource...I would have been researching like a maniac and worked myself into a frenzy! I'm glad to hear everything is ok!

Well my care sucks so I guess I'm one of those people who you consider better off.

I saw a midwife or nurse every 6 weeks up until 35 weeks and now I go about every 9 days for weight, blood pressure, measurements and to check the baby's heartbeat

I had one dating US during my first trimester and was told it was choice to do any testing past GBS and Glucose.

They don't do urine screens every visit, it you swell you get a 24 hour collection.

Naturally I did all the blood tests but they don't do the nuchal fold test or a 20 week level 2.

So basically allI know is my little guy is active as heck, no longer breech, all our blood work came out great and I'm measuring perfectly and gaining exactly how I should with normal blood pressure.

Am I worried yes, luckily not as bad because I volunteered at an ultrasound school and got scanned by 5 techs around 20 weeks who had to identity and measure everything for their final.

Dh and I are both Roman Catholic so even if their was something wrong with the baby we wouldn't terminate the pregnancy and even though neither of us are happy with the care I have recieved we feel that if there was to be the possiblity of something wrong we atleast had 40 weeks of not stressing out about a possible nothing. I guess you could say we put it in God's hands and we figure he won't give us anything more then we can handle.

My mother said the same thing when I had my problem @ 13 weeks. Ignorance was bliss in her days when you saw the dr in the beginning to confirm and then again to give birth and that was it. They make us worry nowadays with out positive reasoning sometimes.
