Sometimes it hurts to care so much

One of my seniors is going through a really tough time. He's never one to admit to problems, but when I asked if he wanted to talk yesterday, he said yes ... and then proceeded to talk and cry to me for a half hour about the mess he's made of his life. Chat Icon I just hope he can turn things around. And of course, on this beautiful day off, I can't get him out of my head.

Thanks, as always, for listening. This job can really take it all out of you sometimes, can't it?

Yes, it can. I know what you are going through. I am an overly involved teacher who talks to my kids over the weekend, who takes them to lunch, and gets involved in their community because my kids are seriously "at risk" and I take ownership over how they "turn out" because most of the time, no one else does. Its easier to "look away" and blame the kids for things they really cant help but it takes a strong woman to reach out to a kid who needs it and allows a child (although I know he is a senior) to vent. That day, you showed him you care, and that in itself is prob. more than he needed.

Chat Icon To you! This job takes its toll on you when you put your whole heart into it!
