Sometimes it's super rewarding
So on a happy note, I stayed after school for a baseball game today, and I ended up talking to the mother of a student I had last year. I'd only met her briefly once before, and when she heard my name, she came over to me and said she was glad to see me because she'd apparently been wanting to thank me since last year...
She told me I gave her son a confidence in his writing that he'd never had before. (This was so hard for me to believe because he's really a PHENOMENAL writer.) What amazed me most, though, was when she said that he considers me THAT teacher who always supports him... because he's always so nonchalant about everything. I think he's amazing, but I had no idea he liked being in my class that much. 
Sometimes, when they hide it so well, it's easy for us to forget that we might be making more of a difference than we realize...

That is such a nice story! It can be a tiring and stressful job and those are the moments that make it all worthwhile
