Sono/Drinking water question
I have my first sono on Thurs. I will be about 8 weeks
The woman who I made the appointment with told me I had to drink 32 ounces of water between 4 and 430 and NOT pee (my appt is at 515) Is that normal? Does it make it easier to see the little bean?

Re: Sono/Drinking water question
They made me do that too. I had to drink 32 ounces starting 1 hour before my appointment. HOWEVER for my 12 week ultrascreen, the tech made me empty my bladder before she begane the ultrasound. For the 20 week, she did the ultrasound while my bladder was full (boy was that uncomfortable), and then let me empty it.

Re: Sono/Drinking water question
It really depends on the office equitment. The newer sono machines you don't have to drink anymore. I have my appt today for a sono and I was told to just bring me and DH is optional!

Re: Sono/Drinking water question
For the first one I had to drink 32 ozs within an hour of my appt and not pee. It gets to be less the further along you are.
I can't remember the reasoning, but I have had very clear pics of our little one each time, and the equip in my drs office isnt quite new so...

Re: Sono/Drinking water question
I didn't have to do that. But from appt one till the end, I had to pee on a glucose strip. So maybe she wants to make sure you have to go?

Under 12 weeks it is hard to see anything with a regular sono. I guess you will find out when you get there!

Re: Sono/Drinking water question
For my eight week I was still getting internal sono and they made me empty my bladder.
When I went for my ultrascreen I didnt drink anything either. I've heard for the 20 week you have to have a full bladder but we shall see.

Re: Sono/Drinking water question
I had to do this for my growth sono at 36 weeks and I thought I was going to die. When I got to the office I had to wait and I told them I was about to explode . They had me go to the bathroom to "let a little out". When I finally went in for the sono they did 1 measurement with a full bladder and then let me empty so I could enjoy the rest of the sono.

I had a regular sono at 8 weeks and we could see everything very clearly, the heartbeat, teh arm buds etc. And this was with what I think is probably "older equipment"
If they told you to drink 32 oz I would think you are having an external sono and I *think* it helps to have your bladder full for that.

Re: Sono/Drinking water question
I never had to drink anything either. In fact they usually took a urine sample prior anyway.

Re: Sono/Drinking water question
I had to do the same at my first visit. I think that was the only time I was required to drink water & not pee before the sono. They did an internal and external sono.

Re: Sono/Drinking water question
I had to drink 20 ounces of water so they could do the external sono ( they checked my bladder I think) they then had me empty my bladder so they could do an internal and we could see the baby.
