sono every month
to start with, the first sono is required. second time is also required, right? after the second sono they found the baby boy kidney swelling and has fluid. so LIJ antepartum order my OB for another sono the following month. it started on August. now, every time i went there, they always find something new to my baby for me to return for another sono. this is my 5th sono. they found out the baby is too big now! my glucose tests was negative. but still they suspect it is gestational diabetes. i asked my OB if its ok if i dont return to that sono anymore. she said i cant do that. and i have to. so next week another sono for me...
my baby girl was 8.11 normal delivery. so my ob said i always carry a big one. i'm 5'6 in height and i weight 167 now. my pre pregnancy was 146. i dont think i gain too much to make the baby big. they cant do anything to stop the antipartum team to stop my sono every 3 weeks.
is this about money making? my last insurance doesnt cover more than 3 insurance thats why they didnt oblige me to go back. now that my insurance is unlimited this is what they are doing. its so annoying and they give me assurance that my baby is fine.

Re: sono every month
I had GD with my DD and I have it again now with this baby. I can tell you they closely monitor the baby's size when you have GD so it's not unusual to have many sonos throughout your pregnancy. I have them at every visit and once I hit 34 weeks, they will have me coming in EVERY WEEK for a sono and for monitoring to ensure everything is fine and the baby isn't too big.
I guess I am not sure why you're upset. If your insurance will cover the sonos then what's the harm in being closely monitored and having the peace of mind that everything with your baby is okay? Am I missing something???

sono every month
i dont have GD. they said the problem is water in the kidney but when i asked them they said the baby is big and the kidney is a bit fine. they are charging me for office visit of $50 now for copay. i dont get it. i just went there for u/s and the insurance said theres no copay for u/s. im so upset because of the hassle they are giving us going back and forth, creating new problem for the baby and not giving me assurance that my baby would be fine, asking for copay which should not be considered as office visit. i just have to vent here. sorry if you think i dont need to worry about this or im not allowed to be upset of the situation.

Honestly, relax. I didn't say you couldn't worry or be upset, I simply wasn't clear as to why you're upset. If the baby is measuring big and there was a prior issue with the kidney then I would gather that is why they are monitoring you closely. They aren't creating a problem for the baby, it sounds like they are being proactive in making sure the baby is healthy.
If you're confused by what they are doing then ask your OB for clarification as to why they are ordering so many sonos. I'm sure it's not to just make money, it would seem based on what you wrote they have a legitimate concern with your baby's size for one reason or another.
ETA - You said in your first post they suspect GD despite the tests which is why I responded the way I did.

sono every month
I'm high risk and am now receiving two sono a week...every Monday and Friday. I would call the billing department and question their charges. I have unlimited sonos too but I have a $35 copay at my perinatologist each week plus I am responsible for a percentage of each visit which amounts to about $50 so each visit costs me on average of $85. Annoying, yes. But to take comfort in knowing my son is fine is worth every single penny and some.

Re: sono every month
You're getting monthly sonos in order to monitor the baby - I'd be happy! I'm in the same position, actually. My insurance only covers 3 sonos - unless it's medically necessary to have more. Since I have fibroids, I've had monthly sonos my entire pregnancy since that's the only way to accurately measure the baby. I love seeing my LO every month. It isn't to make money or to drive you crazy - it's to make sure everything is ok.
As for your LO's kidney - I'm sure he's fine. A slightly dilated kidney is very common, especially in boys, and usually resolves itself on its own after birth, if not before.

Even if your insurance only allowed x number if sonos that is for a normal pregnancy. Mine only allowed a certain number but I had them every other week when I had complications. It is not about money it is about trying to have a healthy baby.

Re: sono every month
I think it's great you are being monitored so closely. Yes, normally insurance only covers 3 sonos unless necessary. I had twins my last pregnancy and got a sono every month. I had to get Pre-authorization through my doc's office from my insurance. Was it annoying? Yes. But absolutely worth it. I loved seeing my babies constantly and i miss that now as I am pregnant with a singleton now so I don't have monthly sonos anymore.
I also wanted to let you know one of my sons had both kidneys enlarged. They found it at 20 weeks and monitored it closely. When he was born they did a sono in the hospital on his kidneys to check them too. He is 13 months now and we still go for monitoring to the specialist. He is fine and little by little his kidneys have begun to shrink to normal size or as my doc says he grew into his kidneys. Sometimes they do surgery if necessary.
Just wanted to let you know this is very common, especially in boys. And even if he has it when he is born, although a lot of times, it is gone by the time the baby is born, he will be seen by a specialist who see this all the time. I know it can be scary. Hang in there.
