sono question
How many sono grams do you get through out your pregnancy?
I am going on my 3rd next week and someone said thats too much.
My first is to confirm the size and due date- 7.5 weeks 2nd becuase of cysts to see if they shrunk- 10.5 weeks 3rd to see if the baby is developing right 13.5
the 4th will be in August at the 20th week to determine the sex of the baby.
please advise what is the norm.

Re: sono question
I think I'm only getting 3 in total, but it seems like everyone's situation is different.
I had the first at 8 wks. 2nd was at 14 wks as part of the integrated test. 3rd was at 17 wks for the level II (should have been a couple of weeks later, but a situation arose)
I asked at my 28 week visit if there would be more, but the doctor said probably not unless I was overdue.

Re: sono question
So far I've had 2...my next doctor's appt is tomorrow and I'm going to ask them if I have any others to schedule. I'm 22 weeks and I'd be so sad if there are no more.

Re: sono question
I didn't find out, but it would have been at the 17 week one.

Re: sono question
I only had 2. One at 10 weeks and one at 20 weeks. But my doctor is ultra conservative. He didn't start my internal exams until I was 38 weeks.

Re: sono question
They found a cyst on my ovaries during the first sono and schedules a second one 3 weeks later to see if the cysts shrunk.

Re: sono question
I will be 14 weeks tomorrow and I have had three. I had one at 7 weeks, 1 at 10, and my ultrascreen at almost 13 weeks. However, three of my closest friends are pregnant and everyone of us has had a different #. I too had a cyst on my Left ovary when they did my 7 week, my doctor said that he wanted to see that because it was the ovary I ovulated from last (?) I think that's what he said. I have my Level II scheduled for August 15th, I think that will be my next.

Re: sono question
So far Ive had 2...
One at my 1st apt... which was 8 weeks
and one at 19 weeks...where I found out the sex of the baby...
Im pretty sure I will only be getting one more...
Not everyone gets a level II... so if you dont have one...you'll probably find out between 18-20 weeks...

12 weeks for the Ultrascreen
About 20 weeks for the LevelII

Re: sono question
I had 3, but under normal circumstances I would have only had one, the level II.
20 weeks to find out the sex 28 weeks bc the baby had an irregular heartbeat at dr's visit so they did a fetal echo to look at his heart
40 weeks bc someone rearended us and they wanted to check amino fluid levels to be safe

Re: sono question
I had 2 internal sonos at weeks 6 and 8. At week 11 to check for down syndrome and at week 20 when we found out the sex of the baby. The doctor told me that the one at 20 weeks would be the last one... except if I need another one later for other reasons.

Re: sono question
I am probably the odd man out here but I've had 10 sonos so far. But that is because I am an xray tech and work closely with sono techs who fight over who gets to scan me.
And ultrasound does not harm the baby in utero in any way. I spoke to one of the radiologists that i work with and he said sound waves do not harm a baby. He did say that towards the end, when your nearing delivery and the baby is much bigger, the sound waves can irritate the baby's ears and you might see the baby twitching or moving alot, as if to say "Shut this noise up" But thats about the extent of it. For me, I just like being able to see my little guy whenever i please, but all along the techs are checking for things like spina bifida, down's, and all those other little nasty things. My Doctor knows i work with the sono techs so when i go for my visits she says "Gee I wonder how many sonos you've had since i last saw you!"...

Re: sono question
No we dont do the 3-d or 4-d... we have the software but the girls said they cant seem to figure out why its not working, and to bring someone in would cost the hospital $$$ so they said they will have to suffer without it for the time being....

Re: sono question
I had one at 8 weeks, one at 13 weeks (for the Integrated test) and one at 18 weeks (the anatomy scan) and then will get one more at 32 weeks to see how the babe is growing. If I want to, I can have a 4D scan done at around 29 weeks at my doc's office, but will have to pay extra for it.

Re: sono question
I think it all depends on your Doctor and you individual pregnancy.
I had ONLY 2 one about 7 weeks and a level II at 20 weeks, and I think that will be it unless something comes up,
I am now 33 weeks..

Re: sono question
I had 3 scheduled sonograms and then 2 extra when the baby decided not to come out on time and those were just for size and to check amnio fluid
