Soooo, I made a bad judgement call and was thrown under the bus by 8 year-old.
My 8 year-old son wasn't feeling well the other day when he came home from school and literally laid in bed all night. He managed to get up and do a little homework but didn't finish it.
The next morning before school he finished his homework but didn't have time to do his 15 minutes of reading that he's supposed to do every night. Because she takes time off their recess if they don't read, I told him to write a book in his reading log anyway and that he would have to read double that night (he likes to read so this wouldn't be a problem).
When he got home from school, I noticed she circle the part where he wrote in under his homework "read 15 minutes." I asked him why she circled it and he replied "well when she came around to check my log I told her I didn't really read but my mom told me to write a book down anyway." Yup, mother of the year for me.
On a better note, at least he has a good conscience -- he told me he felt like he was cheating and that it wasn't right. I told him he did the right thing and I was wrong.
What was I thinking....

Actually it sounds like you are doing a great job raising an honest little man!
**** happens LOL
We all make bad split second decisions on occasion, I would not worry about it. Its good your son knew he did the wrong thing.

Trust me when I say you aren't the only one faking the reading log.

Because she takes time off their recess if they don't read,
can they do this? I know it's against our SD's policy, I wonder if it is against NYS?

Same here in my school. I'm actually for it. I don't mind my kids missing recess for something they didn't do at home.

We were told in our school that we can't take away the activity time with the obesity problem. They can eat lunch with the teacher though.
