I feel like that was the worst way to end a series. My heart was racing toward the end when they were sitting there with the music playing...I was convinced something big was going to happen.
While I agree the ending was AWFUL, I think the point was probably that life is going on for them but he will always be living with the fear of something happening. We were all afraid of everything in that scene, every person that came in, every time the door opened. That is what his life is.
Just a thought...

But they ALWAYS were in fear of something happening...that was the whole premise of the show

I have to admit...the way the last scene was filmed:
The Journey song (which you have to admit- we all secretly love)
Tony there alone, then Carmella, then AJ....Meadow getting frustrated parking
People enjoying themselves in the restaurant
Creepy guy
That scene gave me such a high- my heart was racing, my palms sweating, I was breathing fast...it was awesome
Then of course the big letdown but before that I've never experienced TV that made me so nervous before

you have a good point, my heart was racing BIGTIME! especially when that guy at the counter got up to go to the bathroom

I disagree with the thought that they were all getting killed... the whole purpose of the show was to show the internal conflict of Tony-- to focus on his family or on his other "family". All season he has been struggling with this, and I think he finally made his choice . He could only do that after he talked to Junior and saw how pathetic he is now, because of his family issues, which he brought up again at AJ's therapist's office. Now that he has forgiven Junior, he can have a semi-normal life. That is probably why the song by Journey was in the last scene "Dont stop believin'..." Maybe it was to show that there is hope for even the most vicious of people... Just a theory.

That ending was horrible and disappointing!!
The best part was dh seeing the gas station that's a mile away from where he works...
and the cat/Paulie scene's

I have mixed feelings about the ending. I mostly feel very let down, disappointed, but in way I liked how it left us wondering like T must wonder - is this when he's going to die?

MY DH has a client who is a producer at HBO- I'm going to find otu ***!!
But here are my theories. This was obviously done on purpose. Giving Chase the benefit of teh doubt, that this was not done for a movie, this is what I think:
1. Tony will live on with his family- always looking over his shoulder. But his life as a family man will go on. (Most plausible)
2. Implied that Tony and family get whacked- with or without Meadow.
Either way- it sucked. I am very disappointed.
