Both great theories but they could've at least shown the guy pointing a gun at Tony like he was about to shoot him so it would be an obvious ending.
ETA: Or Meadow having a reaction when she walked in because she sees her father is about to be killed?
I also wouldn't be surprised if they tied this theory in with tomorrows newspaper as the cover story being Tony Soprano Killed!

But the more I think about it the more "it all goes black" makes sense. 
Well Chase sure did one thing...left us all wondering what really happened.

While I agree the ending was AWFUL, I think the point was probably that life is going on for them but he will always be living with the fear of something happening. We were all afraid of everything in that scene, every person that came in, every time the door opened. That is what his life is.

That is exactly what I think. This ending is 100% what I predicted, except I said they would be at home at the dinner table together. Everyone was so focused on 3 options for an ending 1) Tony gets killed, 2) witness protection or 3) jail. Nobody thought about the fourth option-life just goes on. And their last scene gave us a little glimpse about what Tony's life is like. He has to worry at every moment that his life is about to end.
Besides they pretty much said that he's going to jail. They think Carlo flipped and Tony has an 80%-90% chance of indictment.
I liked the episode and I liked the ending. The episode was very intense-I kept thinking alright who's going to get killed. And the last 5 minutes were fantastic. I thought the whole family was getting killed and Meadow was going to walk in to see them all dead. Instead the Sopranos live and life goes on.

Who would have killed him though? Tony sat down with the NY family and came up with an agreement..so, the only logical person that would kill Tony is a relative of Phil...are we to assume that guy in the bathroom was a relative of Phil's?
The theory would have been more valid if the guy in the bathroom was someone we knew from the NY family..
I guess I am in denial and just want a movie to come out...lol..

she had an IS the car that parks itself is a LS 460
the theory about when you die it gets black is pretty good hence you dont hear anything either- no sound after meadow comes in

I also have to say that I really don't think The Sopranos would steal a famous scence from the mother of all mafia movies, the Godfather, for their ending.
I do like the point of it going black like Tony had said it would be when he dies. That is very interesting. But the hit on Tony was off. Phil's guy basically gave Tony permission to kill Phil and basically said he would support him. That guy wanted Phil out and he didn't want Tony killed. So who killed Tony?

ARGHHH!! What a buzzkill!
Just like everyone else, I was on the edge of my seat, watching through my fingers in the last scene, and I thought something happened to the DVR.
All the theories are great, but you know what, Chase crapped out! I think thats wrong to do with the millions of fans who kept with this show and dealt with two year hiatus' in between

Weren't there interviews with cast members who said that everything gets wrapped up in the end? I know they claim to shoot multiple endings, but I think the actors are liars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I would not have even minded that life goes on but they could have made this episode more interesting anyway.

I have to agree with Tony died...Meadow saw the whole thing unfold since she was at the door and not at the booth. She would of been in the way had she parked quicker...and the reference to his POV and "All goes black" just makes sense.
Journey song is a reference to what we are doing now..believeing this story or that happened...
Overall, good. Didn't see the way it happened but i did see Tony dieing. I thought Phil and Tony would go face to face..oh well
There is always another show to watch..

A lot of things do get wrapped up. Christopher is gone-he was a huge threat to Tony. Paulie is now Tony's go to guy. Phil is gone. They implied that Tony is going to jail. AJ seems to have gotten his life back on track. Meadow is getting married and becoming a doctor. Carmela gets to do another real estate project. The Sopranos themselves are going to be ok, even if Tony goes to jail. He's left his family in a good state. His family is not falling apart anymore. Something he has batted with since the start of the show.

So did ( i had DVR problems here and there during the last few weeks of regular shows on some channels)
if i didn't have dvr and watch it i would of thought classic but since we have dvr i said ***... so like all i thought it was dumb...then before going to bed, i thought about it and said it was a good ending.
you have to keep in mind that there are always hints, symbolizing and some other fancy english word to account for most things in the show. going to black meant something...
I think i missed meadows engagement also...i might of been implied when they were talking about her potitenal new job in the law firm

Agreed....Chase always tried so hard to make it an "arthouse flick" when people just wanted to watch a mob story on cable

DH & I were so mad. That truly was a wasted episode & besides Phil getting wacked, there was truly no action. We could not figure out where the heck they were going with everything...
What was the point of Meadow not being able to park the car???? The ending was horrible!!!!

They're totally leaving it open for a movie.
I think they were trying to look "All-American." Tony is probably going to jail.
Jodie Applegate on the news just said she thought the whole cat thing was the ghost of Adriana.
It really blew. So many useless scenes. All I really got was that AJ was now settled...who cares. And Phil is dead.
Some people are also saying the show really ended with Tony with the gun in the last one; that this was a dream sequence... ????

I heard on the radio the ending could have meant 2 things: one, obviously, that Tony gets killed by the guy in the bathroom. The other is that the family enters the witness protection program and that's what the guy in the bathroom is all about. They also said that guy in the bathroom had a more significant part but they edited it out.
I don't like either idea really, but the witness protection program makes sense. First, Tony is about to be brought up on charges. These dinner plans were spontaneous - AJ said I thought you were making manicotti?? And finally, when have they EVER gone to eat at this place before? Ever???
I hate that theory a little less than the idea that Tony gets killed in front of his whole family, so that's what I'm going with.

OK, I thought I lost my cable also last night, DH and I were just staring at each other. I was jumping on my couch like a fool when Phil got shot. I was happy. I hated him.
The whole "fad to black" thing is good, I totally forgot about that. If Meadow did see it happen, (them all die) what will she do know.
DH said as soon as it went black and we realized it wasnt our cable, he said MOVIE.
I thought the cat was Chrissy, but Adrianna is good too.

You know, it's funny...last night I was so angry. I was so mad that the episode ended that way. But this morning I woke up with a different feeling.
I think they kind of wrapped things up for everyone. Tony reconciling with Junior and realizing at the end of the day, none of it matters. All that matters is your family. Junior has no recollection of anything that happened when he was running with the mob boss, but he remembers that he never had a son.
Also, Janice is back to her old self again. Trying to get the money from Junior away from Bobby's kids.
Carmela back to building another house. They even showed her looking at decorating magazines.
AJ back to being his old self with this new job that Carm and Tony got for him. He was acting like an idiot once again sitting on the couch with his girlfriend.
Everything working out with Meadow. They are so happy now that the found out what her income could be 
And then the final scene. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time! But Tony was acting like his normal self. Just sitting with his family and watching the door. I think Chase wanted to show you what it was like to be Tony. Always have to keep looking over your shoulder.
And then the big build up...and then fade to black. I agree, also. I do recall the conversation with Bobby and Tony in the boat when they were on the lake at the cabin. When you die it all just goes silent and black. The entire show was always from Tony's perspective. Of course they show you things from other people's perspectives but the show was basically about him. They showed Meadow struggling parking so that she could walk in and watch her father get shot just like Tony saw his dad get shot. In a restaurant, the same way.
The more I think about it, the more I realize just how brilliant the ending was.
