Re: Sorry... but I am desperate for help
I am going to play devil's advocate here. I think the woman at the shelter is wrong in this instance. According to this website...FIV Information ...your kitten is displaying classic signs of FIV. I'm sure that's not exactly what you want to hear, but the woman who adopted the cat out to you knew it had FIV and that these things could develop. I don't know what vet you are using, but in this scenario I don't think your vet is wrong and I think it's unfair that this woman is going to badmouth the vet with no real reason. She couldn't know that the cat wasn't sick if it has FIV, unless she is a vet. Besides, the stress of relocating to your home could have caused the stress to bring on the symptoms. And lastly, as far as money is concerned, all vets charge different prices. If you are comfortable with the vet and think he is doing a good job, then it should be worth whatever it costs. A cheap vet could be exactly that, you get what you pay for and when it comes to a member of your family money shouldn't be an object.
Good luck with your kitty, I'm sure this is really hard, but you are doing the right thing by taking care of him.

thank you so much!!! I'ave had two conversations with her that have made me left to feel helpless and just so upset about everything.. this has been so traumatic for me as I jsut wanted to do the right thing for my cat... I am jsut so upset...
Anyway, thanks for your insight.. I think she may be trying to protect the shelter--she jsut kept saying that we were taken advantage of and that everyone at the shelter said that they were "short of horrified" when they saw the bill.. anyway, thanks again!

I completely agree with Gertyrae & with your instincts that she is trying to protect the shelter. I think actually, that it is in very poor taste for her to say such things to you when you are taking care of a rescued and ill cat that you got from her when she did not give the cat and veterinary care. You are doing the right thing & your vet seems on point. I think this woman should layoff & to be honest I would express to her next time that although you respect that she is looking out for you, you are more than satisfied with your vet & would not want any bad messages to be sent to other pet owners.

Oh. Jen, I am so sorry that you are going through this. I know you are helping the kitty with love and concern and I am sorry that others are making this a difficult experience.
I totally agree with Gerty's post above.
