Sorry for crashing! Just a few questions...
Maybe you guys can help. My FH's cousin is in her 6th month. The last few weeks she has become so swollen and has gained so much weight in such a little bit of time, she can barely move. Yesterday she was at work and almost fainted. Her BP was through the roof, they kept her a few hours and sent her home. They told her to be on bed rest for a couple of weeks. Fast forward to today, she was rushed back b/c she was basically turning a shade of green, almost fainted again and could barely move her legs
Does anyone know what could be causing this at all???
All I know is that when I saw her about 3 weeks ago her legs and ankles were the size of me! And i know she failed her glucose tests

Re: Sorry for crashing! Just a few questions...
I'm not a doctor, but excessive swelling, very high BP, dizziness and fainting- all point to preeclampsia which is a very serious condition. She would also have protein in her urine, possibly headaches, swelling in her hands and face in addition to her legs and feet and maybe also have floaters or blurred vision. If it is truly preeclampsia, the only thing that will make it all go away is delivering the baby. Since she still has a bit of time for her baby to keep cookin' I suspect that her OB may admit her into the hospital or at the very least put her on strict bedrest at home. Is she in the hospital now? I pray that she is ok!

Re: Sorry for crashing! Just a few questions...
Well two things............the most important being pre-eclampsia. Didn't anyone check her for that?????? Those all sounds like classic signs and left untreated things could go VERY bad, VERY fast!! She should get back to the ER and be checked ASAP!!! Also, if she failed the glucose tests she has gestational diabetes and if it's untreated either by diet, insulin, or both her sugars are probably all over the place. I am really worried for her, she needs to get to the doctor ASAP!!! (Not to scare you but it's not good what you described!!) Keep us posted!!

Thank you for your response! Yes she was just rushed back there about an hour ago. The doctor told her to pack her bags too, so i'm assuming this isn't a good sign

Re: Sorry for crashing! Just a few questions...
that sounds scary. I agree with the OP... in my very unprofessional opinion, I say it could be pre-eclampsia...
but that is something that every pregnant woman is monitored for from day 1.... so as long as she's under any OB's care, they surely are regularly testing her blood pressure, checking her urine for protein and noting other symptoms.
If she is pre-eclamptic, as far as I know, all they can do is keep her hydrated and on bedrest in the hospital and under intense monitoring.... and like the OP said, the only way to stop it is by giving birth.....
I hope she's ok!!!!

Honestly, her case sounds pretty severe. The hospital is the best place for her to be- for the baby and herself! Preeclampsia, toxemia and eclampsia are all related very serious conditions that must be monitored constantly for the safety of the mother and baby. I had some of the symptoms myself and they were not as severe as your cousin- my OB told me- had I been 36 weeks when my BP started to climb, I would have been induced that day. Your cousin may be in the hospital until she delivers... consider it a blessing that they caught it early. Many hugs and prayers to her!!
