Sorry girls, more ultrascreen ?'s - so confused

I'm kind of concerned that I'm not getting an ultrascreen, it's not something the doctor has mentioned at all. Is this something I should push with her? I don't know why I'm so nervous about it...I think because I see all everyone on here posting about theirs and it makes me worry that I'm not doing everything I can.

Also, I have been offered genetic testing (bloodwork) for downs, etc. but I feel like this is not as effective as sono+bloodwork?

I wish I wasn't such a nervous mommy.

The ultra screen is generally given around 20 weeks - are you that far along yet?

I didn't have this test with my son, I don't think it was available then. My dr told me you are going for the Ultrascreen and I said ok. I have a few friends who turned it down. You can certainly ask your dr. It is done between weeks 11 and 13. How many weeks are you?

well, every dr is different....

my dr never measured my hcg levels... even though I had a bleeding incident at 5 weeks... I was very worried by that initially...

ask them if you will have one done... and tell them that you would prefer to have one, if they say no....

I'm just passed 13 weeks. An ultrascreen is not the same as a level II right? Sorry, my lack of knowledge is really bad. Chat Icon

The ultrascreen is given at around 12 weeks, the Level II is given at 20 weeks.

If you are concerned, call you doctor and asked about the nuchal screening/ultrascreen. They may call it something different at your office. I'm sure all offices offer it, but some might not do it as an automatic thing. It was optional at my office, as is the AFP test.

You cannot have the ultrascreen past 14 weeks. Here is some info that might be helpful...

too late for you, then... sorry Chat Icon

the ultrascreen measures the nuchal fold (a fold that has fluid at the back of the neck). there is more fluid if a fetus has trisomy...

the level II is an anatomical scan given at 20 weeks. it measures many organs, bones, the placenta, and the cervix, to make sure everything is developing normally. That's when you find out whether it's a Chat Icon or Chat Icon
