Sorry guys...one more BFing question..
I'm going back to work in January and DS will be in daycare for 11 hours a day. I'm wondering if all this effort in BFing is worth it. not that i dont want to do it, but i figure i have to pump when DS goes to daycare, so is all the effort getting him on the boob important? im really not trying to get out of anything, im just thinking about 8 weeks from now.

Re: Sorry guys...one more BFing question..
IT IS WORTH IT! The bond, the closeness, the love, that tiny little body pressed against yours, the feeling that your body is satisfying your child's most primal need-to be nourished make it all worth it!
But all that aside, it will be much easier for you to establish his feeling pattern, how much he takes in etc if you breastfeed directly rather than just pump and bottle feed from the side. And please feel free to post here anytime with any pumping questions you might have in the future-there are so many of us here who pumped for a long time and we have oodles of experience to share!

Re: Sorry guys...one more BFing question..
I think everyday u breastfeed benefits your Dc from both the emotional and physical level. i really struggled for 3-4 weeks with BFing and sometimes i never thought i'd make it another day. I went to work at 3 months and my schedule consists of a 16 hour shift and he get only pumped milk. I thought it would be hard but after a 1.5m at work i'm pretty proud of my self so don't underestimate yourself.
Also i've seen some of your other posts have you considered a lactation consultant. I credit her for most of my success. and of course like the PP said keep posting here......

Re: Sorry guys...one more BFing question..
thank you so much guys. after all my many posts, the last 48 hours ive done strictly BFing...except twice when i knew id be out of the house where i couldnt feed so i pumped a bottle. i also changed from the football hold to the cross over hold and i think that actually made a difference. DS started munching for 20 minutes straight! now he's been sleeping for almost 3 hours and last night he slept from 12:30-5:30am!!! im still making my DH help by taking him if he wont go to sleep right away or do a diaper change. so my job is to feed then go back to sleep.
if this is working out...do i still need to pump after each feeding? honestly, i havent been mostly because im so tired. but if i still need to do it each time then i will.
thanks for the great advice and support! i never realized how hard BFing can be. i honestly thought it was put the baby to the boob and everything will work itself out. wow was i wrong. i give you ladies so much credit!

Re: Sorry guys...one more BFing question..
How old is your baby? I know my pumping seemed so tedious til about 2-3 months. At that point I finally seemed to really be getting a good amount and was actually having a great stash in the freezer. I BF til one year, so it worked out for us.
Everyone has different schedules on when pumping works out best. Once DS was sleeping longer stretches I actually pumped before I went to bed. Sometimes I'd wake up before him and pump then. Babies are much more efficient than the pump, so even if you pump right before feeding, it's not a big deal.

that is great you are doing so well and have your DH helping that way! very smart! the only advice i can add is that while you are home find a time when pumping is convenient for you and make a stash in the freezer for when you return. you'll be so happy you did! also if you pump your body gets used to it and you get more efficient. keep bottle feeding here and there so your DC is used to a bottle and doesn't reject it before you have to go to work. i made that mistake with my DD so my DS is gets bottles every day since i go back in 3 weeks. oh i meant to say pump whenever you 'miss' a feeding so your body keep producing. good luck!
