Sorry to crash your board: Elementary school teacher question
What are the items you run out of the most frequently?
Is there a discount store for teachers for supplies? Do they have gift certificates availabile?
As someone who will never get the opportunity to be a classmom, I'm looking to contribute more for the classrom. Any ideas are appreciated.

Re: Sorry to crash your board: Elementary school teacher question
That is so sweet of you!
As a fifth grade teacher, I am always running out of pencils and index cards, but other than that, i really can't complain. the kids come in with the supplies they need uusally and most of the basics are supplied by the school.
as a kindergarten teacher previously in the city, i always needed crayons, markers and all sorts of scrap papers, popm-popms, things like that for the kdis to play with, glue, experiment, etc.
As always, BOOKS are always appreciated. you might want to specfically ask your child's teacher for specfic titles. many of us do readign groups where we need several copies of the same book.

What a fantastic parent you are!
I always run out of pencils and paper towels.
Maybe ask the teacher what he/she needs most.

You are so thoughtful. I always appreciated when parents asked me if I needed anything for the classroom.
They always sent in extra boxes of tissues, wipes, pencils.. some parents have donated books to the class library...I would ask the teacher. :)

Re: Sorry to crash your board: Elementary school teacher question
I have had parents bring in Costco boxes of wipes, markers, tissues, ziplock bags, crayons, silverware and pencils. I swear I was giddy when I got everything.
I know when I brought my daughter's teacher a box of wipes, she was overjoyed. I know I spend a ton of money on my own classroom, but I didn't want my daugher's teacher spending her own money.
That is really thoughtful of you, and I am sure the teacher will appreciate it.

Re: Sorry to crash your board: Elementary school teacher question
Barb you continue to be an amazing person. So many teachers ask for so many different things. I actually stole this from a mom of one of my former students who wanted to do the same thing as you. I also just did the same thing for my DS kindergarten teacher.
I received a note from her asking me for my 10 ten things on my wish list for my classroom. She explained that she was in the same boat as you are and that she would love to be able to help out in another type of was since her job flexibility was what she said non-existant. She felt asking each teacher what exactly they needed helped so that they wouldn't have too many extras of one thing and not enough of another, or just something that they never receive.

Re: Sorry to crash your board: Elementary school teacher question
I read in a Parenting magazine article to ask the teacher for a list of top 10 supplies, since each teacher has unique needs.
If it were me: post-its, pencils, crayons/markers/color pencils, eraser tops, book tape, glue sticks or maybe a subscription to a professional journal/magazine.
time is also a great thing to give

Pencils!!!!!
Also, for those who said eraser tops, don't forget to get your freebies from Staples. As a teacher, you can get 25 packs of them!--each pack has 12.You can also get 25 sharpeners with covers and 25 folders! (I had over 25 folders and they didn't charge for extra!) I love free stuff!
