sort of preg. related.....VENT about NYC DOE
Sooooo...all the kids in my school today got the H1N1 shot. (those that signed up). I plan on getting the shot so I asked if they were giving it out to teachers and they said "no". Well...I think that's STUPID! Teacher's should get it for free. Anyways...I leave work all ****** off.
DH comes home tonight from work and tells me FDNY (he's a fireman) is getting the Swine Flu shot for FREE. How is it that NYC teachers aren't getting it for free but firemen are?!?Does that make any SENSE?!?!

I think it is nuts that they wouldn't let the teachers get it. How cost effective is that? If all the teachers get sick who is going to teach the kids? Did they offer to let you pay for it, or submit insurance?

We have to go to our general practitioner to get it. And mine doesn't have it...of course!

Thats ridiculous that they wont offer it to teachers. They should at least offer it to you because you are pregnant.

It figures! I was wondering about that. I wonder if enough teachers complain, maybe they will give them to teachers. They are so bass ackwards!
Just curious - did most of the parents sign for it?

Yep, makes no sense to me either. Plus, let's say a teacher gets the flu and then exposes the kids to it. Just b/c the kids (some of them) got the vaccine, it doesn't mean they won't get sick and round and round it goes

That's wrong that they aren't giving it to teachers, nonetheless pregnant teachers!!!
DH is getting his tonight too. I asked him if I could come with and he said it's not available to families yet.
The reason why they are getting it though is because they are emergency personnel and they are also in one of the top risk groups.
