Sort of Spinoff to Childhood Obesity

This thread made me start to wonder; am I the only one with an 8-9 month old who shows NO interest in table food? He still nurses 4-5 times a day and eats 3 meals of pureed baby food.

I have tried giving DS fruit/veggies in the mesh feeder with little success, mashed potatoes (white and sweet), cheerios, pastina as well as little bits of whatever we are eating and he acts like he is gagging and spits it out.

About once or twice a week I'll give him an on an organic teething cookie and he'll gnaw on that for a few minutes, but that's it.

DS still nurses and/or gets pumped bottles 4 times per day. He eats 3 meals per day of pureed food. He'll eat puffs if I feed them to him and he'll eat either very small pieces of fruit or fruit through the mesh feeder. I also just started giving him small pieces of cheese, which he seems to like. He still loves purees though.

Maybe DS isn't ready for table food. Did you start solids at 6 months? That's when we started. I'm not really rushing the table food, but that's b/c he does well with the purees and I'm not sure if he's quite ready for a lot of the table food. I'd keep offering it to him though. Chat Icon

Re: Sort of Spinoff to Childhood Obesity

I started solids at 4 mos, but DS doesn't have any teeth yet, so maybe that is part of it. He is also allergic to dairy so that limits alot of what he can try. He loves soy yogurt, but I haven't ventured to try the soy cheese yet. I also find it really funny that he won't go for table food, but if there is a piece of paper within is reach it ends up in his mouth before you can blink!

At this point I haven't been too worried about it, it was just when I read about babies eating cake and sundaes I was thinking maybe I should be pushing him a bit more Chat Icon it seems like every other baby his age is just about sitting at the table with a knife and fork! Chat Icon

DH is anti puff, he is convinced they are a pre-cursor to cheetos Chat Icon I'll keep trying with the table food, I'm sure he'll let us know when he is ready Chat Icon

He may not like the texture of the food in his mouth, which I heard is pretty common. Continue to give it to him, eventually he will get used to itChat Icon

Re: Sort of Spinoff to Childhood Obesity

At 9 months DD has just started eating 3 meals a day in addition to nursing. Table food introduction wasn't until 11 months. She also was EBF until 6 months. She got her first taste of rice cereal at 6 months 3 days.

I'm glad to hear there are more kids like him! I was beginning to think he was a little off Chat Icon Hopefully he doesn't turn out to be a super picky eater! He isn't that way now ...as long as it pureed
